I think I'm going to make Chicken with a yellow mole and masa dumplings if the chicken ever thaws out.

We shall see.

Only bad thing about it that I warm it in the microwave and it doesn't give me an opportunity to light the oven. It's up to +3 here, but my condo has frozen pipes again.

Me, I'd find anything at all to bake. All of my cast iron pots live in my oven. (Rust prevention) When I bake something I just slide them over for cooking room. After, I leave the oven door open. As if it's going to make a difference. LOL.

And we really don't need it. I'm a fan of sleeping outside. Spent a nice clear night in my front yard in a sleeping bag, watched Orion and Mars cross the sky.

On Saturday, my sister remembered that they had a long-unused space heater which she brought over on Sunday. It's helping in this room quite a bit.

Nice to sleep outdoors. There's so much light pollution that we can't see much. I'd also probably end up with bug bites.

Somehow water was backing up into the bathtubs in several units -- almost to the point of overflowing. I only had about an inch in mine.

I have a combination of baseboard and radiant heat, the last because I live over the garage (which is where the frozen pipe is located).

It's cold because I have a continuous line of windows starting 4 feet off the floor along all the outside walls. Most face west and that's where the wind is coming from. There's a total of 19 windows that are somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 feet wide and extend to the ceiling.

There's also the fact that I am usually cold.

On edit: If the frozen pipe meant no heat, I'd be at my sister's or niece's!

but I can see how they would be a big problem in the cold.

Brrr…. Makes me cold just thinking of you.

Wrap up in your comforters and drink some delicious hot chocolate.

At least that's what I would do.

And here is a nice warm hug for you.

The windows are great because I get a lot of sun. It's just at this time of year...but this weather is insane.

Thanks for the nice warm hug. Here's one for you!

12. trying my stuffed poblano pepper recipe again

I made it before with the stuffing being butternut squash.

Tonight I'm going to make the chicken tinga mixture and stuff the poblanos with that instead.

In addition, I've made a tossed salad: has baby arugula, Boston lettuce, sliced carrots, daikon radish, green pepper, and cherry tomatoes. I like to top it with Thousand Island and chow mein noodles for crunch.

For dessert, I've sliced some cantaloupe that despite it being winter, is exceptionally tasty. Mixed it with big blueberries and chopped mint. Topping is Greek yogurt sweetened with agave.

Sorry about your frozen pipes, Great Aunt. I know it's bad there because my auntie lives over in Des Plaines.

My pipes thawed! Amazingly, and the temperature has not risen. Here's how:

I forgot I had a second dishwasher. Yeah, I know --how could anyone forget they have two dishwashers? I was so sick of washing dishes by hand from the one that was frozen up that I rolled out the portable dishwasher I forgot I had.

Washed the dishes in it using the sink in the butler's pantry. The next thing I know, water is coming out of the main sink faucet!

My theory is that the portable dishwasher warmed up the pipes enough that it thawed them around the corner in the main kitchen.

I told this story to my students. One works in a hardware store and he said work is a constant parade all day long of people coming in for various things they need to fix frozen pipes.

Chicken Tinga is now one of my most favorite things in the world. And stuffing a poblano with it? Pure genius.

Are you going to bake it?

And you also fixed your plumbing problem?

You are my hero.

Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I deep fried food. Well, then today came!

I made Betty Crocker's Bisquick beer batter and deep-fried shrimp and onion rings and also plain-deep-fried Ore-Ida Restaurant french fries. Man, was that ever a treat!

No wonder I don't usually deep fry - what a mess. However, what a delicious light and crunchy batter though!

5 cups of Au jus
3# round roast
6 cloves garlic
1 medium onion
Throw it all in the crockpot for 8-9 hours (shred with fork when around 2 hours remain)

Serve on Gonella french rolls
