This is the same company that makes the Thermopen, but this is a much cheaper model. I would still expect it to be very well made and probably has the same probe as the Thermopen. I have an instant read thermometer, but I ordered one anyway. Hard to beat the price.

(36,818 posts)They work great for roasts and for other things where you just leave the probe in. I've been using them for years. The problem I've had with them is the probes go bad fairly often.
Instant read thermometers are great for making quick temp checks for meats, breads, or such. They read accurately after about 5 seconds. Probes like the one you listed take much longer to read accurately.

(36,818 posts)It looks to be well made. I checked the calibration by putting the probe in a pot of boiling water and it read 210.2. I calculated my boiling point at 210.4 using the following web site:
