Jalfrezi

When I go grocery shopping I generally check the 'dented can section' to looks for deals. Last week I found a jar of Sharwood's Jalfrezi sauce. Having spent a year in New Delhi during the sixties I have a fondness for Indian food, although it's been a long time since I've have any to speak of, I decided to give it a try. Wow that stuff is good! I made the shrimp recipe on the jar (I've been jonesing for shrimp lately anyway), served it up with Jasmine rice and sauteed/steamed asparagus. Yummo

As I enjoy cooking my second thought, after man this is good, was how can I make this from scratch? I cruised the internets and found a number of recipes and techniques.

Knowing the C&B group is always a source of great recipes, I thought I would ask you guys for any tips, tricks and recipes for Jalfrezi.

Thanks

Ya know I just noticed we need a good cooking smilie.

1. I really like Jalfrezi - had a surprisingly hot version in the UK on a business trip once

that used chicken - the culprits were some very hot strips of peppers that were used!

This recipe looks pretty good - http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chicken-jalfrezi/

I think the key is to be really aggressive/heavy handed with the spices. I am surprised by the lack of peppers - see one of the comments. I think once you get the basics of the sauce and seasonings, it is easily expandable/modifiable using added veggies and alternate proteins.

laundry room so I could make the kitchen look nice and deal with the mess in the am. I love to cook but sometimes the mess is overwhelming even when I keep up with it all during the process.

so we eat out often at Indian/Paki places, and I like Jalfrezi a lot too. Friend cooks Paki-style, but never gets it quite right, he's too creative!
