I'm stressing on chicken shortage

Does anyone know how long the shortage is projected to last?

Any tips on shopping? Which stores, what days, what times of days? Locally, there is Aldi, Kroger, Giant Eagle, IGA, walmart. I have an elderly cat who is used to getting a little raw chcicken every day. But for her, I would become a vegetarian.

I will be 70 this year. I never dreamed America would have food shortages. Or that the cost of food would put it out of reach for so many.

I use Instacart for Aldi and curbside pickup for Kroger. When I order, they are out, or just have the expensive brands.

I know egg prices are up, so I use 3 less a week which isn't a bad thing.

As for shopping, be a lurker in the 7-9 AM time slot. Real early you have the store to yourself.

The chicken farms have killed over 22 million birds this spring. Experts say if the meat is thoroughly cooked, the bird flu won't affect humans. But there has been a persistent shortage since last July. It's just been in the last month that I've had trouble getting chicken.

more than 24 million per day in the US. some of those euthanized over bird flu are egg producers so any meat shortage is unlikely to be due to bird flu. no shortage that I have noticed in southern AZ.

I've had trouble with a few things. Chicken, blue cheese, feta cheese, triscuit type crackers, diet ginger ale, and diet powdered gelatin. I have always bought the store brand, but I can't get any of those things locally.

I read last year that there is a shortage of carbon dioxide to make soda. That was really hard to believe, considering CO2 is such a big factor in climate change.

99 cents. The chicken breasts at Sams were $2.28 which was a bit high...got them for $1.89 the time before. But bone in Chicken breast were $1.19.

seem to be holding most of their chicken back until the weekend. Usually Friday and Saturday there will be a lot more chicken than throughout the rest of the week.

Chicken here in NC, but we cannot afford it. We buy morningstar vegan chicken patties to save money. Cat food still a problem, though.

I switched to Chewy last year, trying to keep her in canned Friskies. I want her to have just chicken, with no seafood. She liked turkey one time :/ Beef is too rich. Even Chewy is iffy as a source. I cut chicken up for her and freeze it in portion packs, and also give her a bit of any chicken I plan to have for myself. I have portion packs ahead now, but already anxious about running low. When I make chicken for my meals, one breast lasts 2 or 3 meals for me.

that have been spay/neutered. The seafood can irritate the urinary track, especially in males. I would give the kitties a little tuna or get a can of chicken-tuna once in awhile for a treat. I don't know if it is just canned cat food or all fish, but just better to make it a rare treat.

I buy extra chicken on sale and keep it in the freezer...I buy it when it is 1.89 for boneless breasts which are versatile. I buy 93% ground beef at 3.99 per pound on sale. I would go in the morning and avoid weekends. Recently, I got chicken thighs for .99 per pound. It was a good brand too. In general, I shop on Tuesday and Wednesday after the weekend rush.

I've got chicken, ground beef and pork in the freezer. I worry about the next round of shopping. She doesn't like ground beef, and I wouldn't give her raw pork. Probably not cooked either.

Chicken is up to 2.49/lb here. I can get ground beef at the IGA for 2.98/lb family pack, and I stay ahead on that. IGA has a local source for meat, so I like buying it there.

I don't shop on the weekend, although if that's when the local stores actually have what I need, I might adapt

I'm still being careful. Trying to gear up for actual shopping again. I don't mind frozen for me, but I don't want to thaw and refreeze. Even if the IGA here says it is 20% fat, it seems leaner. Not much fat drains off. All I use it for is chili and meatloaf.

The ones where I live don't have an income requirement, so everyone is eligible. Plenty of chicken. We have pet food banks here too so you might want to search for one in your area.
