6 month evaluation of Precision Nutrition program

and since there was a recent reply to the one I posted in Fitness it it reminded me to do an update.

I did join and we are just past the halfway mark. It sure as heck is working for me. There have been some huge changes in my life because of doing this coaching. I took back my kitchen, I am eating better (and less), being just a little more organized in my life in general, working out 3 days a week (never thought I would be there!) and just in the last month or so trying to actually get walking more (hate walking - see my post in the lounge), have even bought a couple exercise-related items! The biggest change is losing 50 lbs without ever feeling deprived of anything. OK there was that two week period where we experimented with going completely sugar free. That sucked only because my one cup of coffee in the morning requires sugar and fake creamer powder. ugh, black coffee!

The program foundations are working to build new habits for two weeks at a time - very basic things, but the personal coaching, the accountability of the daily lessons and the facebook support group really makes a difference. The workouts are tailored to your personal abilities and goals and can be done in a gym or at home with a few simple pieces of equipment (resistance bands and dumbbells). The articles and lessons are easy and often funny as hell, but most important to me they are science based and not pushing supplements (they don't sell them) or faddish eating (other than whole foods!)

Much of what is taught is available free on the website, in fact I had already lost some weight before we even started just by following a couple of the articles on the habits! For me the biggest help was learning to eat slow and mindfully. All the physiology of satiety and so on are explained in easy to understand lessons and for me anyway, it finally clicked and made sense and became pretty easy to practice. I love how the focus is on eating more of what is nutritious and enjoying it and not at all about deprivation or any ideas of good or bad foods. If you want something eat it. Just do it mindfully and slowly and enjoy it. Just try to eat some lean protein and 5 servings of colorful vegetables and fruits every day. It is pretty amazing. As you chase those vegs you tend to be completely satisfied and not even wanting the things that aren't so nourishing. Or you have a little cake at the birthday party and don't fucking worry about it!

So halfway through this thing, I have lost a block of livestock salt, I can pretty easily walk a mile, I can do a plank, I can do a bunch of funny sounding exercises (dead bug cracks me up), get up and down off the floor dozens of times (I swear that was the real workout - they had me doing rounds of things that were on the floor then upright then back to the floor for like an hour!), eating less without even feeling it - eating yummy stuff that is healthy and not fake, and being completely satisfied. Working to be a little better and not perfect, one thing at a time. Clean slate EVERY day. No guilt.

I highly recommend the program if you can afford it, I was really scared and it is a lot of money to me, but now...worth every penny and since I do my workouts at home, probably not much more than a gym membership and the gas (and clothes, ha ha) to go there.

The one drawback for me is the fact that it is an online program (that is a pro-con combo, actually) because I do have a bit of an internet addiction and the FB group in particular is troublesome because anybody on there probably knows what a time SUCK it can be) so I am exploring some strategies to get my ass off the computer once I am through with the daily stuff and a reasonable time playing on other sites.

1. It's great that you found a program that works for you.

Everyone responds differently to the various diet regimens so when you find a program that is effective for more than a few weeks and sustain it then you have a winner.

You have surely gained a lot of knowledge and lost a lot of weight! I don't know what a block of livestock salt weighs but I'm guessing about 50 lbs.
Whatever your success, congratulations! The actual number doesn't mean as much as many other numbers such as BP, Heart Rate, Blood Counts, Sugar etc ...

Thanks for such a wonderful concise update!
