I have come to accept my body dysmorphia....

As of today I have lost a total of 66.1 pounds since August. Yet as hard as I look I just don't really "see" it. Sure I have collarbones again and my clothes are a little looser. Now I still have a ways to go on this metamorphosis...But for those of you who have lost quite a bit...How long did it take for you to really "see" a dramatic change.

1. I'm still working on it

I've lost 80 lbs in the last year, and I still see a fat person when I look in the mirror. I still have about 40 more lbs I'd like to lose. The reality check is in the clothes that got too big, and the smaller size clothes I can now fit into.

2. i have gone from 302 to 138

Still I find myself looking at the wrong dress size area in the store. I can,t tell you how shocked I am at times when I look in the full length mirror and see a 'skinny' person looking back.
I have weighed 138 for about 6.5 years now. So yeah. It takes a while

3. I have followed your bumpy road on your loss....

You have worked so so hard ---at times when you were having all those complications I felt so torn for you and wondered if what I saw as your suffering was worth it....Now years later when I see your posts I see you as such a role model for commitment and determination. We pretty much started at the same place with our weight. I investigated all the surgeries and was ready to make the leap when my insurance refused me. I got really pissed....but didn't have the fight in me to take them on. Instead I went with a medically supervised program that has been the only thing that has ever worked for me. I drink the shakes, eat the veg and protein and try to forget that I'm hungry most of the time. I know it's hunger in the head...but regardless... I know it will be a demon I will co exist with for the rest of my life.

I still look at other women and wonder ....am I as big or as small as her.
Not in a judgie way...but just to get a better sense of where I am and what my body looks like. My mirror is still unreliable. I can't wait for that day when I'm surprised.

6. You've done really well in your quest for better health.

Thank you for your kind words. It has been a struggle yet only one time did I think that I should never have had the surgery. I'm glad I did though.

I too look at others and wonder how I measure up size wise, I think that's just natural

You're doing well.

4. That's about what I've lost since December

I spent my evening trying on clothes and making a pile to donate. Tomorrow I shop for smaller clothes that go with what I have left. For me it's not really that much of an adjustment to be smaller because until I was in my mid 30s, I was 130 pounds unless I was pregnant. I just feel like I'm finally getting my real body back.

5. That's a great deal in such a short time

Looks like the surgery worked well for you....That's so exciting! I am going to need to do some shopping in the next month or so. I figured I would just buy as little as possible while I'm losing...at least until I get into the "regular" sizes. I haven't worn a Misses size since high school so that transition will be a major milestone for me and I will be doing quite a bit of celebratory shopping when I get there.

How are you managing with your new way of eating?
