new med in February

Hello all,

Hope all of you are having a good 2018 so far or will soon! As I said last year, my doctor is now starting me on an MAO inhibitor, Selegiline, which he is dispensing as a transdermal patch to be applied to my skin. The benefit of transdermal as opposed to oral is that it lowers the possibility of a hypertensive crisis if I accidentally eat anything with tyramine in it. The Selegiline was his idea and not at my insistence.

Anyway, in February I start taking it. First, my Bupropion and Venlafaxine have to be tapered down carefully, and then I have to be totally antidepressant-free for two weeks (a "wash-out" period) because you cannot mix other antidepressants with Selegiline.

At any rate, wish me luck. Hopefully it will be worth all this hassle. All the best to all of you.

Steve

It might be rough going for a bit while you taper off and wash out, but hang in there. It will probably be well worth it when you start on the new stuff.

The target symptom of emotional rejection-sensitivity is the one I want to eliminate or drastically reduce. The rest of depression symptoms I can slog along with. Best wishes to you in 2018.
