Bipolar disorder is usually a life long kind of deal, no matter how well you think you've resolved your issues. Take it from someone who has gone off his meds before with nearly disastrous results.

With me the very first thing that flies out the window is my ability to judge my own mental state.

My obsessive-depressed-paranoid black hole-in-hell becomes my reality.

I need people around who will convince me to seek help, or even drag me out of the cold kicking and screaming if it's that bad.

I never want to be my crazy grandma dragged out of her home by police and paramedics kicking, screaming, cussing, kicking, hitting, and biting, a danger to herself and others.

I'm not saying you'd ever be anything close to that, but this adventure is never anything you want to do alone.

Somewhere along I built a support system. Otherwise there is a crazy homeless guy in me, living in his car in a church parking lot.

I've done that and I don't want to do it again.

finally found an ad that worked for me, but it really took a year and a half to see how it was working, and what it could do for me.
it can be so subtle. i think you should really give yourself a chance to go through a good spot, and see how that works.
i am a notorious pill fiddler myself. i drive my doc a little nuts. but he is very understanding. i get the urge. but hang on to what you have for a little longer is what i gotta say.

So far being off depakote isn't causing any sort of emergency at all.

hope it stays calm. but don't make it a "moral" issue. don't invest in staying off if it doesn't go well.

I personally have done the exact same thing & slowly weened myself off because I was feeling great! Going to the gym, to the grocery store, mowing the hard, socializing with friends etc ... I suffered from severe depression for about 15 years. Now my young adult daughter is bipolar and angry and at times suicidal. We have battled with our daughter over taking her meds since she was in middle school. She goes off and then on & we know exactly if she is taking them and when she's not. Of course we all feel better and when we do that's when our powerful minds say "you don'y need this anymore." If you have been going to the same doctor for a long time, it never hurts to get a FRESH pair of eyes (so to speak). Be careful and be safe and make wise choices.

with your doctor. I worked in a short term facility years ago. I know it can be a drag taking meds - I have to give myself an injection for my arthritis every other week. I don't notice right away if I miss one, but if I miss a couple I'm stiff again in the morning (because my inflammation levels in the blood are rising). Our bodies sometimes have a mind of their own. Please be careful.

I am being slowly taken off my meds. But that is due the the experimental thing I am in.

They do have me keep a diary. Maybe while you do this, you might want to keep one too. Then take it in with you to your Care Provider when you have an appointment and discuss it.
