'Allo 'Allo - all 9 seasons streaming on Netflix
If you like British slapstick and if you (are old enough to have) enjoyed Hogan's Heroes give it a try. From IMDB:
In WW2 France, Rene Artois runs a small café where Resistance fighters, Gestapo men, German Army officers and escaped Allied POWs interact daily, ignorant of one another's true identity or presence, exasperating Rene.
The French are incompetent, the Germans are bumbling, and general silliness ensues.

(20,672 posts)It was hugely popular when first shown. The central character was René, a café owner in Nazi occupied France. There are lots of great lines and characters like the local resistance leader who always says in that fake French accent...."Listen very carefully, I shall say this only wance (once)". Or the British spy undercover as a French policeman who has the most indecipherable accent. One of the big plot lines later on is where René and the Germans hide a picture of the "Fallen Madonna with the big boobies" .

(26,773 posts)I have reached the point where laugh tracks are totally distracting and unacceptable. Which is why I can't watch all too many shows which might otherwise be worthwhile.

If something is actually amusing, them I'm amused. Otherwise, don't try to bludgeon me with canned laughter of people who actually died decades ago.
Think about the fact that movies don't have laugh tracks. Don't need them. TV shows don't need them either.
Recently a friend had recommended some old British show to me. I got no more than ten minutes into it because the male character was a complete ass, and the laugh track said his boorish behavior was supposed to be amusing. It wasn't. It was offensive. It's nice that my friend, and no doubt many other people liked that show, but I have better things to do with my time.

(73,072 posts)I just rewatched the series recently, as I was feeling nostalgic. (My family used to watch Britcoms and munch on pizza Friday nights.)
It was still quite enjoyable, but as a grown woman it was also a bit cringe-worthy due to the sexist and gay stereotypes.

(1,896 posts)A small Home Guard unit in 1940 composed of a boy and a bunch of old men who have no business whatsoever in uniform. Incompetence, shortages, and petty politics. It's a very British show.
