Netflix Rental - 4:44: Last Day on Earth - Wow!

Last edited Tue Sep 3, 2013, 05:58 PM - Edit history (1)

Saw this last night and thought it was brilliant. Story, acting, directing, set design - all top notch. In a similar vein to Lars von Trier's Melancholia. There were moments when it was like watching a Beckett play.

Although the set up is the day the world ends due to an indeterminate disaster - some kind of environmental/solar catastrophe - it's not science fiction. It's a character study of how two people living in NYC deal with the impending end of all life on earth. It bears close watching for subtle detail and meaning.

Interesting note about the title. Kabbalistic trivia: one of the meanings of 444 translates as "The story of your life."

Would enjoy to read any reactions and reviews from folks here.

How accurate have Netflix predictions been for you?

It's sort of hit or miss for me.

Basically, any movie they rate 3 stars or more, I like. And anything over 4 stars I love. And they're mostly movies I've never heard of. The key is to rate every movie you see.
