Has anyone had an adverse reaction to the new shingles vaccine?

Shingrix. I had my physical yesterday and I got both Shingrix and a pneumococcal vaccine. My doc told me that the new shingles vaccine was a little harder on the body but it was 97% effective and that he highly recommended it. Having already had shingles once, 16 weeks post-partum, I did not want to go through that again so I agreed. I woke up at midnight last night with a fever of 101 and severe body aches, then chills. Felt 100% like a bad flu. Anyway, I'm much better today, going to work. Ibuprofen helps loads, but be prepared if you get the shot! I would still get it again, but I would have done it on a Friday so I'd have the weekend to recover.

8. Could have been the pneumococcal vaccine, too, I'm finding out.

Oh well, it's over with. Just feel a little sore and tired today.

2. That's a pretty typical reaction (as many as 1/6)... but sure beats postherpetic neuralgia

I had Shingles this Spring - it was uncomfortable but fortunately the blistering and rash was nothing like I feared it would be. I soaked in an Epsom Salts bath, every night, for at least 30 minutes and used a lot of analgesic gel. I also read a list of foods to definitely avoid, and I did. I do take a lot of turmeric, too, so maybe that helped.

As a kid I also sailed through measles, mumps and chicken pox with little to no discomfort, so maybe I'm just weird.

9. A friend of mine developed it AFTER she got the vaccination

Not immediately after, so it wasn't like she was already developing the condition. She had a hard case and really suffered, for months. Hers ran across her upper chest. Mine was across my mid rib cage.

For me, the post neuropathy was GRRRRRRRRRR. It centered mostly on my back and I could feel an itch, but everything on top of the itch was numb, so scratching was a waste of time. Fortunately, everything ran its course in about a month.

Anyway, I encourage people to take Turmeric on a regular basis. The anti inflammatory properties can come in really handy, sometimes.

I was sick 2-3 days, felt miserable. It was after the second pneumonia shot.

6. Gee, maybe it was the pneumococcal shot.

I've had that one before and didn't get sick, but that really doesn't mean anything because you can react to one and not the other.

In fact I'm due for the Shingrix booster next month.

Glad your reaction wasn't any worse, but it beats having pneumonia or shingles to contend with.

13. The two Shingrix boosters should be given 6-8 weeks apart

at least for seniors..

I had mine eight weeks - time flies... and was out of town past week, so will call tomorrow for the second one.

And certainly am going to wait perhaps another week for the flu vaccine.

I did go to work tonight but still don't feel right, kind of like a bad hangover, and my arm is killing me. I swear, I'm usually not a complainer, but this was notable.

15. I had severe reactions to the second shot of the new vaccine

I only took the new shingles vaccine, nothing else. My arm was extremely sore and swollen, I had trouble breathing and felt terrible during the night-weak, groggy and headachy and I was glad I had not had anything to drink or any other medications that evening or my allergy symptoms could have been even more serious. Then over the next couple of days I developed shingles or chicken pox-like rashes from my left forehead, left nostril, above and below my mouth, down my left chest and on my left arm that took several days to clear up. The chest/breast rashes were especially bad with pus filled pustules. My doctor filled out a form for CDC to report my symptoms.
