NC legislators think back-alley abortions are just fine

Rachel Maddow just covered NC's new bill to ban UNC's world-class ob-gyn program from teaching doctors-in-training on how to perform abortions.

McElreft, a proponent, said it doesn't need taught -- doctors can 'pick it up on their own.'

The unmitigated ignorance in such a statement is obvious. That is, obvious to all who are fully aware of the link between abortion, reproductive choice and women's health.

The theocratic misogynists who push such unenlightened legislation do so at the expense of the safety of women and girls. They are putting their self-righteous moralizing ahead of lives.

Yet they have the gall to call themselves 'pro-life.'

Speaking to the restrictions on medical training, McElraft said she would prefer providers learn how to perform the procedure via “other options,” rather than in university hospitals, arguing that taxpayers didn’t want public funds to be used toward the training. “There are opportunities for doctors to learn this,” McElraft said, according to WRAL. “Abortion physicians learn from all kinds of training — spontaneous abortions or miscarriages. Sometimes, you learn how to act in an emergency situation.”

That’s actually patently false. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), “Legal, regulatory, and other restrictions form barriers to education and training in abortion care. As a result, educators may encounter multiple obstacles to integrating appropriate training.”

NC legislators are not smart enough to design this attack on UNC and on women's health care. They may have beliefs but there is another hand involved in their strategy!

He's kind of like a Koch Brother, if the Koch Brothers lived in North Carolina and ran fleabag discount stores.

Art Pope has had an axe to grind with UNC and the NC university system for 40 years at least. "They" see NC as the blueprint for retooling public institutions into propaganda machines for their sick and twisted version of christian faith. Sort of a 1984 by way of Art Pope's disturbing vision for North Carolina and the Koch's desire for a Dominionist USA.

It is part of a highly coordinated effort to alter the legal and informational landscape of America.

What I find curious is the complete lack of interest on the part of Holder's DOJ. Oops, I forgot they only pursue elderly marijuana users and anyone who blows whistles on institutional wrong-doing.
