CHICAGO, March 9, 2012 It appears Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is causing a slight problem for the president and the Democratic Party. This is especially delicate because Villaraigosa is the chair of the Democratic Convention, which will be held in Charlotte North Carolina in September.
Villaraigosa has come out publicly for putting gay marriage rights in the Democratic Party platform.
"I think it's basic to who we are. I believe in family values, and I believe that we all ought to be able to have a family and to marry if you want to," Villaraigosa says. "I don't think the government should be allowed to be in the business of denying people the fundamental right to marry." (Chicago Tribune)
When asked about Villaraigosas endorsement, Jim Messina, chairman of the presidents reelection committee slammed those opposed to gay marriage.

Maybe now thats it's being thrown in their faces (some of our National leaders) of the hypocrisy they will act. Public opinion is on our side, lets not also forget humanity is on our side plus the fact it the right thing to do!

On a related topic, when MSNBC showed results of a polling survey for the amount of Marylanders who support marriage equality, less than 40% of Black respondents supported it compared to over 50% of Whites in that state. That made me feel ashamed because that survey kinda portrayed us to be hypocrites, plus the same thing happened here in CA in '08 when people were asked whether they support Prop 8. The news tries to make it a race thing, and it comes off as if we're all homophobic and socially backwards.
