I've been locked out of the discussion on who should/shouldn't be host, or I'd ask you in there.

What do you think are the problems? Why aren't you interested?

is not contributing to you reluctance.

Nothing in that thread is intended as criticism of locking my thread - as I said there, I think we're all just sorting out the new rules and the lock provided a concrete tool to use to sort out what the rules are on locking posts.

I am grateful to those who stepped up during the beta period and personaly I would not want to be host (and don't have the time now, anyway). But if I was host, I would want clear guidance as to where to draw the line on what is on and off topic (and on whether locking a thread is permitted for any other reason). We eat our own here - and hosts are going to be the first target - and very easy pickings if the rules aren't clear.

(Beyond that. the much more discretionary herding the cats and keeping out the wolves host super powers rules scare me to death in the midst of the current climate.)

ms. toad -- for the life of me -- i cannot figure out what you are talking about.

i know from the past you're a mensch.

and i think you have sincere feelings about 'rules' of some sort -- but i do not what 'rules' you could mean w/out taking that to meta.

instead it seems more like you want to question the judgments made by others -- as though they are some how not honest.

there are just some things i'm not interested in -- and i don't want to be a part of it.

Since you are not interested, I will not try to explain it again here. I did make another post in the original thread citing the rules I am concerned about if you decide you are interested, at some point.

Rest assured that I was not raising the question for purposes of judging the decision the host(s) made - merely using it as a concrete example to talk about. I don't question the integrity of anyone who took on that role - and I believe that you were all acting in the best interest of this community.

I'm really glad DU provides a place for GLBT people to come and talk about issues and just generally commiserate.

So I try not to focus on misunderstandings between myself and other members of the GLBT community here; rather, I try to build bridges, or else I just keep difficult people at arm's distance. And there are a handful of people here with whom I conflict at times, but that's just life.

There's enough conflict going on with regard to the Maggie Gallagher's of the world and Westboro and Marcus Bachmann that I feel that arguing here with other GLBT people is destructive.

I'm not sure that I will do well being a host, but regardless of what happens, it's nice to know that some people trust my judgment here and feel that I'm capable.

accusations of cliques, etc left a very bad taste in my mouth.

not unlike accusations of racism & being conservative trolls from another group not long ago.
