Under Lockdown, Parents Are Discovering Their Children Are LGBT And Dumping Them On The Street
https://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/coronavirus-lockdown-lgbt-domestic-abuse-teens?ref=bfnsplash# LGBT parents are suffering homophobic and transphobic abuse from their own children during the lockdown, a charity has revealed — while young LGBT people are being thrown out onto the street by parents who discover their child’s sexuality or gender identity. Somehow I think we're not headed back to "normal" later. ![]()

3. 62 million people voted for trump.
The thought that they all came to their senses is too much to hope for and not supported by evidence.

4. I doubt if LGBT is the only group who are experiencing domestic revelations.
Families have not always spent enough time together, or been honest enough with one another at critical times. This is forcing parents, children, spouses, and even pets to get attention "where they live" (physically as well as figuratively).
It's sometimes a revelation for the good and uplifting, and sometimes hurtful, even in the extreme. We're all finding out about many of the parts of the world we've been intentionally ignoring during this pandemic. In the long run, I hope it leads to fewer people taking a gun to innocents and crowds down the road, and more people shifting their lives toward a deeper understanding of the world around them. |

8. I doubt if anyone thinks the LGBT community is the only group experienceing problems.
However, it is too uncommon for a liberal publication to write about a LGBT issue, and even less uncommon for LGBT people to post articles about our community in the LGBT group. LGBT are a viable and real minority, often overlooked. So, it is important to get information about our community out into the mainstream.

10. Absolutely this
I’d add it’s also way to common that when our communities issues are being discussed it is way too common to be told we are not unique. It’s disheartening to say the least.

5. Disgusting
I just wanted my daughter and son to be happy, fulfilled, and kind. Beyond that they were free to be who they were.
What’s wrong with these people? |

6. The underlying problem is
that for a couple of generations now most people spend very little time with their children. Both parents work full time. The mom returns to work three days after giving birth, it seems.
So they barely know each other in the first place. Sad, but not unexpected. |

7. I always hope beyond hope at least the new generations will not have to deal
with homelessness because of hate filled parents, but that hope is dashed further every time I read the actual news.
Bigotry thrives in this kind of cooped up environment. Bigotry always thrives, but more now than ever, it seems. Each step forward that we get to take, I can feel the backlash and several steps back coming, because of bigots. Where I live, I still feel like rights never got here and I was not able to change anyone's mind who hated me along the way. Hell, my stepbrother carries a 45 pistol and claims to be "ok with gay people." The 45 is so that if anyone makes a pass at him, he can shoot them. Believe it or not, he's not even the worst kind of bigot where I live. He is one of the milder ones. The rest love brute force bashing and rape as their method of expressing their hatred. It's too late for me to recover from the sustained bigotry and hate where I live, as poverty keeps me here and the bigotry and hate is still 99% of my ongoing experience in life. I feel like a hate sponge, put here to absorb the wrath of all of their bigotry, hate, willful ignorance, and bullying....alone. Always alone, me against the world. ....but I at least want to see the day that the next generations do not have to face so much hate. I wish we could find a way to protect each other more. |

9. LGBT Children
My daughters came out about 5 years ago, one as bi and one as a lesbian. I will literally die to protect them from these homophobic bigots. I worry so much for them, especially the one getting married to her partner when she graduates university. To all, please, I beg you if you have a LGBT child and are having issues about their sexuality, contact your local PFLAG affiliate.
