http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/15/westboro-baptist-church-to-picket-whitney-houstons-funeral/I'm on several of their members' Twitter feeds. Utter nonsense and heresy day in and day out, usually a proclamation that somebody or other is going to hell because they didn't repent and find Jesus. Frankly, I'd like them to read a Bible in a proper translation (NRSV comes to mind) and repent and find Christ.

(2,261 posts)I honestly didn't know that, and thought I saw something about that as a rumor, and not true.
Please bring me up to speed on this. Why are they choosing her funeral? Is it simply to get attention and feed their own egos?

Two little boys were brutally murdered and the Saturday before Gov. Gregoire signed the Marriage Equality Act, was their funeral. These asshats informed the pess that they would be in Tacoma to picket the funeral saying that the boys died because God was pissed at Washington for becoming a same sex marriage state.
Not totally sure that were or weren't showing up...the staff at a United Methodist Church in South Tacoma was asked to arrange a dignified counter demonstration to provide a screen to the family so they wouldn't have to see these bastards and to preserve the dignity and solemnity of the service.
Myself and the Sr. Pastor I work with each spent about 30 hours that week marshalling various groups to be a part of that. In all, we had 4,000+ folks who were willing to put thir name on the computer saying they would be a part of that.
The heartwarming part of this whole incident was that first of all, they backed down and secondly it was a testament to the communities decency (sp) and being willing to stand up for justice. Tacoma has come along ways in 22 years. In Nov. of 1989 I remember having garbage thrown at me as I was holding a campaign sign advocating for a civil rights ordinanace for the GLBT community. We lost that vote.
So my message to Newark...be in solidarity, pay tribute to Whitney, but also have a plan in case and know that there issolidarity in the cause of justice!

(5,354 posts)except them, with very few other exceptions. Any and all publicized funerals are "protest-worthy" regardless of who it was or how they lived. They are a completely predictable bunch.
