Anti-transgender "bathroom initiative" fails to make fall ballot (Washington State)

The anti-transgender "bathroom initiative", I-1552, designed to roll back bathroom and locker room access, has failed to collect enough signatures to win a place on Washington's November ballot.

Sponsors of the Just Want Privacy campaign canceled a scheduled 3 p.m. Friday meeting to turn in signatures at the Secretary of State's office. It marked the second straight year they have lost in the Legislature and again in efforts to force a statewide vote.

"Happy days," commented former King County Executive Ron Sims.

"This is a great victory over anti-transgender bigotry for human rights in our state," U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal said in a statement.
