MISSISSIPPI: Funeral Home Sued For Refusing To Perform Cremation Of 82 Year-Old Married Gay Man
One Mississippi family’s pain and grief after losing a loved one was compounded when the local funeral home suddenly refused to perform their relative’s cremation because he was gay. Robert Huskey passed away in May 2016 after his heart condition worsened over the previous year. Knowing that his death was imminent, Huskey’s nephew had made arrangements with the local funeral home the month before his passing.
But according to a lawsuit announced Tuesday by Lambda Legal, the Picayune Funeral Home suddenly refused to pick up and cremate Huskey’s body as planned on the day of his death. All because that day, the lawsuit alleges, the funeral home discovered Huskey was gay and married to Jack Zawadski [photo], his partner of 52 years. “I felt as if all the air had been knocked out of me,” Zawadski said in a statement released Tuesday. “Bob was my life, and we had always felt so welcome in this community. And then, at a moment of such personal pain and loss, to have someone do what they did to me, to us, to Bob, I just couldn’t believe it. No one should be put through what we were put through.” http://www.joemygod.com/2017/05/02/mississippi-funeral-home-sued-refusing-perform-cremation-82-year-old-married-gay-man-video/

1. Sue that funeral home
Take every penny from them, take the money from the owners, if there is a general manager, take money from the g.m. No quarter should be given by Zawadskis' attorneys. I have a strong opinion.

3. This pisses me off so fucking much.
Seems to be happening quite a bit as of late. I guess us "homos" aren't getting off so easy as many have claimed.

5. And then some wonder why we call them "deplorables". Wow. just wow.
I was just responding to a post here on DU that was defending Trump supporters as those who "voted to change the status quo".
I was quick to point out that of all 6 Trump supporters I know, 5 truly are proven bigoted, racist, homophobic, sexist, deplorable pricks. Two got fired for racist remarks. One got disciplined and warned never to make another homophobic remark. Two more have expressed their blatantly racist and sexist reasons they voted for Frump, and both are so elderly and close to retirement... everyone just ignores them. And one. One "good christian" who got preached into voting for Trump by her pastor's sermons, is only now coming around to regretting that decision. The disciplined homophobe has been looking for ways to retaliate ever since and still won't even utter a grunt to myself or other "out" LGBT at work. But this crap. Holy moly. |
