Andersonville on Chicago's Northside makes the national top 10 neighborhoods in the nation list.
Andersonville has been the referred to as "Girls Town" for years. It is rife with restaurants, cool little shops, Gay and Lesbian bars and just a ton of great people.
Any given time of day you can see same sex couples walking hand in hand down the street. Mostly female couples. Hamburger Mary's is one of the hot spots both day and night.
My favorite Lesbian bar, well, second favorite, Stargaze, was there for years until it had to close because of funds a few years ago. It was run by a beautiful Lesbian couple and Dusty, one of the owners, was always behind the bar making everyone feel great.
I'm so happy!
Like every neighborhood we come into and make wonderful, this will probably push us out. There goes the gayborhood!
But for now, I'm celebrating. Maybe I will venture out to The Parlor tonight. I'm too old to troll the bars anymore but wtf! This deserves a celebration!

(29,503 posts)3400 block on the east side of Broadway - I can't recall the name ATM? Small place, glass front window?
Anyway, I miss living in Chicago in the 80's - was a lot of fun. I knew every single bar like the back of my hand, lol.

(17,997 posts)That's my first favorite. Oldest lesbian bar in the city. Still there and going strong.
Never once didn't get lucky in the Closet.

(29,503 posts)who knew one of the bartenders - my hangouts were Christopher Street, Berlin, Little Jim's, and Annex 3. When my friend died in the late 90's (after I'd left town for good), his death closed that chapter of my life for me - it really left me without others to share memories and laughs.
Anyway, I'm glad you found this news item encouraging and fun! I do hope Andersonville remains gay/lesbian, but even the Swedes moved on, lol.

(17,997 posts)I am not familiar with Christopher Street. I'm guessing you are a guy? Or a straight female? Little Jim's is hard core boy bar. Berlin, I had a bad experience the one time I was there so I never went back. Annex was fun.
Thanks for bringing up fun memories. Hope you can come back and enjoy it again.
