Crimea bans Pride as Russia anti-gay law is imposed
This is the first time LGBTI people in the peninsula have been forced to live under Russian homophobic rules since the beginning of the Crimea crisis
14 April 2014 | By Joe Morgan

Crimea has banned a planned Pride march on the basis of Russia’s gay propaganda law.

Sevastopol authorities banned today (14 April) the parade scheduled for 22-23 April.

This is the first time LGBTI people in the peninsula have been forced to live under Russian homophobic rules since the beginning of the Crimea crisis.

LGBTI people were largely split on the referendum that saw 97% vote in favor of seceding from Ukraine and join Russia. - See more at: http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/crimea-bans-pride-russia-anti-gay-law-imposed140414#sthash.ya8K9bKx.dpuf

Yet there are even worse places for gays and lesbians. Some African countries have all but declared open season and in Iran, gay men are still strung up at the end of a rope.

It's irrelevant to the topic of NEW injustice in Crimea at the hands of the Putin Mafia Regime.

I oppose the imposition of anti-gay laws in Nigeria, Uganda and other African countries. I am appalled by the way homosexuals are treated in islamic countries....

I'm also appalled by the way they are treated in Russia.

SO this "yet there are even worse places" apologetics bullshit can be hidden somewhere dark and moist.

and saying "Things are worse elsewhere!" doesn't cut it. Prejudice needs to be fought everywhere, including right here in our supposedly great nation.

And I fear that as the anti-gay crusades spread across the globe, it will only embolden the hatemongers here at home.

get themselves in a knot trying to rationalize how great Russia is and how lucky the Ukranian people are now that Russia is going to invade them.
