http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/couple-finally-reveals-childs-gender-five-years-birth-180300388.html"I wanted to avoid all that stereotyping," Laxton said in an interview with the Cambridge News. "Stereotypes seem fundamentally stupid. Why would you want to slot people into boxes?"
Laxton, a UK-based web editor, and her partner, Cooper, decided to keep Sasha's sex a secret when he was still in the womb. The birth announcement stated the gender-neutral name of their child, but skipped the big reveal. Up until recently, the couple only told a few close friends and family members that Sasha was a boy and managed to keep the rest of the world in the dark. But now that he's starting school the secret's out.
For years, Becks has been referring to her child, the youngest of three, as "the infant" on her personal blog. But guarding the public from her son's gender was only part of her quest to let her kid just be a kid.
Laxton and Cooper are very brave to be doing what they are doing. I might not have done this myself but it's great to let your children just "be" instead of forcing stereotypes on them.

(15 posts)For people that claim to be against "stereotypes", they seem to be going out of their way to try to turn this kid into a stereotype of girls, while themselves living up to the stereotype of fanatically liberal anti-male lesbians. And it's not about choice, as this child is apparently not allowed to wear "hyper-masculine outfits".
The lives of children shouldn't be used as some kind of crude social engineering experiment. I'd like to follow up with this kid 20 years from now and see if he's not emotionally scarred for life.

Fanatically liberal.... anti-male lesbians?!?!
If you have such an issue with fanatically liberal anti-male lesbians, then why oh why do you drag your sad sack ass into the Queers posting area?
I already get it, that it will be my post that gets zapped as being "insensitive" to just one more hater, while theirs being heralded as being "reasonable"....
.... as I mean, the view count sits at 51 as I type this with 3 hours passing from OP post to now.... and people actually wonder why most of us have either left, or are not "an active member"???
These hating fuckers wipe shit in our faces in our own home.... and we are to smile, and say "thanks".....

(5,815 posts)They quite consciously seem to be steering the child away from masculine stereotypes while goading and affirming female driven types, roles, and dress.
From what the article depicts, I cannot see some grand experiment with neutral arbiters of gender happening here. There's a weird little sociological agenda with a subconscious bias that is only subconscious to the parents. Looking in from the outside, it seems they have a boy who they want to raise as a girl, just to see what happens. Wrapped in all kinds of self-aggrandizing, noble-sounding rhetoric to be certain.
I'm sorry, but if you're rejecting "hyper-masculine" dress, while letting your kid run around in a pink bikini, you're not just letting those chips fall where they may. You're steering that child on a specific course.
I think the idea is sound in theory. How would a child develop in an environment that didn't enforce gender stereotypes and norms?
But that ain't what's happening in this family.
I'll put ten bucks down that this kid is going to grow up to fucking loathe them.
And he won't be wrong. Children's lives are not experiments for their parents' poorly formed, and clearly agenda'd nonsense.
