You see, Buchanan is not the only problematic individual to be given somewhat of a home at MSNBC.
According to the site Equality Matters, Family Research Council head Tony Perkins has made 11 appearances on MSNBC news programs. Perkins is the same guy who has said vindictive things about the lgbtq community including:
* Gay Activists Are Intolerant, Hateful, Spiteful Pawns Of The Devil. [Right Wing Watch, 5/3/11]
* Senators Who Vote For DADT Repeal Will Have The Blood Of Innocent Soldiers On Their Hands. [Right Wing Watch, 12/16/10]
* Kids Do Worse In These Same-Sex Households. Theyre More Susceptible To Violence. [Fox News, Fox & Friends Sunday, 4/24/11]
* Gays Are Trying To Spread Fear And Intimidation So That They Can Disrupt And Destabilize The Legal System, Like Terrorists. [Good As You, 4/29/11]
* Research Is Overwhelming That Gay Men Are More Likely To Molest Children. [MSNBC, Hardball, 11/29/11]
The stuff Perkins says is no different than the drivel Buchanan spews.

(108,903 posts)as to what homophobia is -- or they believe they are not homophobes themselves -- and so have the license to say homophobic things -- cause they're one of the 'cool kids'.
i've sort of started applying that lesson to other situations.

(2,261 posts)I doubt Perkins is paid much, (if at all), by MSNBC for voicing his bile on their network.
I think Pat got a good fat check from MSNBC, (and may still be collecting thounsands a month as part of a "contract" he signed with them that ensured he would be paid so much a month for so many, (usually 3-5) years. Probably a contract in the millions, or about 1.something million over 3-5 years for "daily commentary, six days per week, as required, from Jan 1 200x to Dec 31, 20xx. He would have been free to write books, maintain an office and an office research staff of one to three full time employees at MSNBC, and he would have been free to designate 10% of the days of the year when he would not be available. That's how network consultant contracts work these days, not just $10 to show up and spout off for 10 minutes.
He also, probably:
1) has a hotel suite in NYC within several blocks of the studios where he can reside 365 days a year, so as to get up and be on TV at 6 AM or as late as 2 AM after an election.
2) has access to corporate jet transportation to places like Denver for the 2008 Democratic national convention, and hotel and limo services while there
3) has access to barbershop, makeup, tailor, personal shopper services, etc., while in the employ under contract with a major network. These guys don't come cheap, and they get a lifestyle most of us would only dream about. By the way, 24/7/365 there is a food service available to ALL employees at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where the staff pay for meals, but the big TV stars pay little if anything, and have their meals delivered to a private dining room at the top of the building.
That's what Pat B. was getting, as a regular paid consultant guest 4-6 days a week.
By contrast.
As for Tony Perkins, he probably gets free makeup services, and little if anything else, just to spread his filthy bile on all those networks.
