Gay couple win Berkshire B&B refusal case

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-19991266

The couple drove back home after being refused a room in the B&B

A gay couple who were turned away from a bed and breakfast were discriminated against, it has been ruled.

Michael Black, 64, and John Morgan, 59, booked a double room at the Swiss Bed and Breakfast in Berkshire via email.

When they arrived in March 2010, owner Susanne Wilkinson would not let them stay in a room with a double bed.

The couple, from Brampton near Huntingdon, were awarded £1,800 each at Reading County Court for "injury to feelings".

When you start renting out rooms and advertising online as a B&B it, to me, ceases to be a family home and becomes a business open to the public. And you must not discriminate as a business.

I think it might be different if she were renting a room to a boarder long term but I have to ponder that a bit more.
