Boys cannot wear skirts, according to one Maryland high school that reportedly suspended a student for doing just that.

I wonder if this means they will suspend girls who wear pants? T-shirts? The list goes on and on.
Discrimination plain and simple.

(21,043 posts)that doesn't fit the dress code of our workplace.
Where I used to work (in Miami), it was even more rigorous. Certain types of pants were allowed and others were disallowed, culottes were not allowed, minis were not, revealing clothing were not, and a lot of other stuff.
In both places hair was also an issue. Wild hair dyes were not allowed, spikes, and a huge list of other stuff.
Certain tattoos had to be covered, and (I'm going to take a guess here) people who might be covered in tattoos would not be hired.
All kinds of stuff did not suit the image the places want(ed) to project to their clients.
Even CLEANLINESS was an issue in many of the companies I worked at. One woman was suspended for having a very strong odor that was affecting her co-workers. She was counseled and returned to work within 2 weeks with no smell.
I was sent home to change one time when I wore open-toed high heeled shoes at my last place. Only closed toe shoes were allowed. No toes peeking with all kinds of wild nail polish.

Men were required to wear flat, closed shoes, no sandals, no cut-offs, absolutely no skirts or dresses ever, required were button down shirts unless they worked as maintenance staff or runners, in which case they were required to wear golf shirts with the logo of the place, the hair had to be short and well-kept, cleanliness, of course.

Edited to add link to info on the school in question:

(38,187 posts)Their policy could cause an international incident of the most embarrassing kind.
It sounds like a discriminatory policy. The ACLU could take them to court over it easily. I protested the policy at my community college that forced women to wear skirts or dresses to graduation. A sternly worded letter from the ACLU, citing the parts of Title 9* that said they cannot do that, backed them down on that policy real quick. They changed the policy for all future graduations and functions at the college and for my graduation too. There was thunderous applause when they announced the policy change at graduation rehearsal too.
*and yes, Title 9 goes both ways. Males can use it too because if they have different policies for males and females, that is discrimination.
