Israel’s envoy plays warning siren at UN Security Council meeting

In a moment of drama at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Israel’s ambassador played the piercing 15-second siren that warns Israelis to run to bomb shelters to escape rocket attacks to highlight the threat his country faces.
Israel's UN Ambassador Ron Prosor.

Ron Prosor told the council that the Islamic terror group Hamas, which controls Gaza, is “intentionally and indiscriminately” threatening 3.5 million Israelis and “no nation, no people and no government could tolerate this”.

Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour had no props for his appeal to the council “to stop the bleeding” and revive the Palestinians’ “dying hopes” for an end to the conflict and peace with freedom.

“I speak on behalf of the suffering and grieving Palestinian people, who are enduring yet another barrage of death, destruction, trauma and terror,” he said.

Diplomats said Jordan has circulated a press statement, which is not legally binding, for the Security Council to consider that would call for a cease-fire.

well, it's no Wile E. Coyote bomb drawing, but I guess it'll do.

I think the UN security council ought to be grateful that mr. Mansour didn't bring an equivalent example of what Palestinians are going through...

snip* The international community, headed by the United States, refused to get excited by the siren that Israel UN Ambassador Ron Prosor played to the UN General Assembly, a sound that sends hundreds of thousands of Israeli children running to their shelters in terror.

Siren Goes Off In Real Times On Dermer’s iPhone During TV Interview

Today 12:54 PM by Jacob Kornbluh

Intentionally or not, during an interview with Bob Schieffer on CBS’ Face the nation, an alarm went off on Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer’s phone notifying him that a rocket was being fired at Gedera, his mother’s home city.

UN Ambassador Ron Prosor on Thursday also played the piercing 15-second siren that warns Israelis to run to bomb shelters to escape rocket attacks, during a speech at the UN’s Security Council to highlight the threat his country faces.

Following PM Netanyahu on the program, Dermer stressed that while Hamas was deliberately targeting civilians during its fighting, Israel would continue to make all efforts to avoid killing or hurting civilians on its end.dermer siren

“When our pilots are targeting a particular site, they try to make sure that it’s clear of civilians,” Dermer said. “There are many, many military operations that are called off, because we see that there are civilians that are going to come into harm’s way. That’s the difference between us and Hamas. Hamas is deliberately targeting our civilians. They want to kill as many civilians in Israel as possible.”
