Growing disputes between Fatah, Hamas threaten unity government

GAZA/RAMALLAH, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Disputes between Islamic Hamas movement and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party have been growing recently, threatening the previous reconciliation reached by the two parties earlier before.

Over the past two days, Hamas movement officials accused the unity government of neglecting the Gaza Strip and not meeting the basic needs of the enclave's populations, threatening to carry out alternative steps.

Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman for Hamas in Gaza said in a press statement that there is a serious administrative vacuum that the Gaza Strip suffers from, adding that "so far the ministers of the unity government from the West Bank didn't communicate their deputies in the Gaza Strip."

"In fact, the current unity government is just an extension to the former government in Ramallah and it deals with the Gaza Strip as an illegal entity, including its employees and its ministries," said Abu Zurhi.
