Arabs: We Want Democracy - Like Israel

The Tel Aviv District Court's decision to send former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to six years in prison for corruption has prompted calls in the Arab world for endorsing Israel's standards of accountability, transparency and justice.

Reacting to the sentencing of Olmert, many Arabs expressed hope that the day would come when their countries would learn from Israel that no one is above the law, even if he or she is a president or prime minister.

Sufian Abu Zayda, a leading Fatah official and former Palestinian Authority minister, praised the court verdict; he said it shows that in Israel, no one is above the law.

"This verdict provides further evidence that the judicial system in Israel is fully independent in the wake of the separation between the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, as well as total freedom of the media," said Abu Zayda, who is considered an expert on Israeli affairs.

he was brought to trial and acquitted. That is not being above the law. That means the prosecution did not prove their case.

If he was not brought to trial at all that would be above the law.

Sufian Abu Zayda is also an apparent political opponent of Abbas

Interesting that he used the term "Arabs" in favor of Palestinian, usually that is done when the wish is to strip Palestinians of their nationality, curious that

It has something to do with the fact that many of the people being quoted we're non-Palestinian Arabs. Because that would simply make it accurate.

Nice to see how quickly people are to make baseless accusations like yours. I notice you didn't even need to read the article to "know" exactly what was happening.

unless of course you wish to promote such stuff, given the extreme rightwing source IMO the only surprise is that there is no claim that it means 'Arabs' (Palestinians) as a good deal come from Palestinian sources want a Jewish (and democratic) state

what is obvious is that the comments are in favor of jailing officials such as Olmert

What stuff?

But there wasn't. So, what's your point? Are you saying the quotes were made up? And why would "Arabs" mean "Palestinians" just because some if the Arab quotes were palestinian?

what is obvious is that the comments are in favor of jailing officials such as Olmert

Really? And what's your point?

as long as its somehow anti-Islamic, anything, and I mean anything, will get published there.

For example, the suggestion that Osama bin Laden and the boys at al-Qaeda like to boof each other up the arse to make it easier to conceal bombs and the like in the rear orifice:-
