Con men are common as dirt, and Trump has long since proven himself a master at that trade. He doesn't know much else, but he knows how to do that.

He is just appealing to the deepest, darkest parts of the American psyche - to those who wet their pants over 9/11 (and I'm not minimizing what happened that day - I watched it out our CEO's window in living color), to those who hate that brown people have "invaded" "their" country and I honestly think it's because he's a celebrity. Many of these people have never seen a celebrity up close and now they get to vote for one. But he's not conning anyone. What you see is what you get.

At the moment he says it. The man has NO core beliefs (other than to make money). If that means being pro choice one minute in order to get a vote, that's fine. If 1 hour later he needs the vote of an anti-choice person, that's what he'll be - and he's already forgotten that he was pro choice and hour ago.
