Greetings from the Middle Ages

Op-ed: Many of those preaching a return to the past are clerics from different religions, who pose a clear and imminent danger to human society. It's harder to understand the damage reflected by those who are not dressed like ayatollahs but share their views.

An American acquaintance woke up one morning after a sleepless night, read the papers, browsed through the social networks, and said to her husband with a certain amount of panic: "The Middle Ages are back."

At his request, she elaborated: The Islamic State's massacres in Syria and Boko Haram in Africa, the terror attacks in Sinai and Paris, the knife terrorism in Israel and the territories, the xenophobia in Europe and the United States, and the comments made by the Republican Party's presidential candidates.

That's a long list, no doubt. Even if the Middle Ages are not really returning - history only repeats itself in songs - it seems that millions, people from rival nations and rival religions, are missing the values which dominated Europe during that dark period. The world is too complicated for them: They want it simple, basic, impulsive, unique, Either you follow me on everything - or you deserve to die.

Many of those preaching a return to the past wear long gowns of religious clerics. They include Shi'ites, Sunnis, Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, Hindus - and rabbis of our own. There is no point in wasting words on them. The danger they pose to the welfare of the human society, to human dignity, to life itself, is clear and imminent.

Trump, who noted that he endorsed Netanyahu during Israel's 2013 elections, is expected to address Sheldon Adelson's Republican Jewish Coalition on Thursday.

Donald Trump, the U.S. billionaire currently seeking the Republican nomination for the 2016 presidential election, said Wednesday during a rally in Virginia that he plans to visit Israel "very soon."

Trump, currently leading the polls among his Republican rivals, is expected on Thursday to address the Republican Jewish Coalition's presidential forum - the right-wing organization supported by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, considered among Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's greatest supporters in the U.S.

"Very soon I'm going to Israel," Trump said. "I'm going to be meeting with [Prime Minister] Bibi Netanyahu who’s a great guy...I love Israel and will support it whole-heartedly."

Trump noted that during Israel's 2013 elections, he filmed a video expressing his support for Netanyahu and the Likud party. “He’s a good man, he’s worked very hard, he has absolutely no support from President Obama — absolutely none."

The issue of U.S. support for Israel is considered a central issue for the Republican presidential primaries. Sheldon Adelson in particular decides which candidates to support based on their support for Israel. Nearly every Republican candidate hopes to secure Adelson's support, which includes his financial contributions of millions of dollars.

Trump has spoken several times on Israel over the past several months of his primary campaign. In August, amid the backdrop of the Iran nuclear deal, Trump said that Barack Obama and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry "sold Israel out" during negotiations with Iran.

In Gaza and Iran IS and just about every other neighboring territory it's not even possible for Gays to even live - more like stone ages as far as Gay rights are concerned.
