Liberman: Israel should revert to a military government to eradicate terror

Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman on Tuesday called for the government to deny residency to those living in east Jerusalem who are involved in terrorist activity, ahead of an emergency meeting called by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the recent escalation of terrorist attacks.

Liberman said in a statement that he expects several particular decisions to be clearly made by the security cabinet. He said that no terrorist should survive a terrorist attack, Israel should adopt the United States' open-fire regulations and deny residency to those in east Jerusalem involved in terrorism.

Israel should also "begin using emergency law and institute a military government everywhere it is necessary to eradicate terrorism," he said.

"I remind the prime minister and cabinet members: words do not stop terrorists. Security is gained through an iron fist."

1. Top US general to visit Israel as defense aid talks expected to resume

The top US military officer will visit Israel next week, Israel's military said on Tuesday, as the two nations prepare to resume talks on defense aid that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had suspended in protest at the Iran nuclear deal.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said Marine General Joseph Dunford, who took over as chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff this month, would arrive on Sunday. She did not elaborate, and US officials had no immediate comment.

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said Dunford and his hosts would discuss Russia's military intervention in Syria in support of President Bashar Assad, as well as future US defense aid for Israel.

The US and Israeli governments had been looking to agree on a 10-year aid package to extend the current deal worth $3 billion annually, which is due to expire in 2017.

2. Report: Gulf states looking to buy Israel-developed defense systems in massive deal

Bahrain and several other Gulf states are in negotiations to buy the Iron Dome defense system and possibly other Israeli-developed weapons for protection from “a growing arsenal of Iranian missiles,” Sky News reported on Tuesday.

Bahrain’s foreign minister, Khalid bin Mohammed, told Sky News that the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, are interested in purchasing the Israeli weapon for the entire council.

“The Israelis have their small Iron Dome. We’ll have a much bigger one in the GCC,” Mohammed said on Tuesday in London.

Mohammed said that interest in the Iron Dome has increased as a result of the Iran nuclear deal, which will loosen sanctions on Iran. The Bahraini foreign minister said the agreement will allow Iran to “stockpile enough missiles to overwhelm any defense system we build in the Gulf.”

There is a political term for this kind of proposal.
"Violently replacing the current political system with a new one"
It's on the tip of my tongue...

Following a deadly rash of terror attacks across Israel carried out by East Jerusalem residents on Tuesday, the security cabinet voted to authorize police to impose closures in Jerusalem and surround Arab neighborhoods according to security considerations, a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office said late Tuesday night.

Other courses of action approved by the security cabinet included the demolition of terrorists’ homes within days of an attack and the banning on new construction, the confiscation of the property of terrorists who carry out attacks and the revoking of permanent residency rights.

the top brass might be handpicked and loyal, but everyone else isn't gonna be pleased with him politically rewriting an institution that's long pretended to be "above politics," as the country's tutelary guardian and embodiment: he and his settlers are raising the risk of hot war a thousandfold and getting soldiers to fight alongside them, leaving them more exposed; "grass-mowing" is starting to feel beneath them

a precedent might be Begin's constant states of emergency against his OWN people, which had knocked a few degrees off Israel's democracy barometer--and brought the IDF to heel

ShB and Mossad might even be kept out of the loop, and ShB and Mossad do NOT like knowing
