A new report examines the effects of low level radiation on life.
No telling what radiation blasted into the atmosphere is doing.
Surely it can't be good.

(4,795 posts)A lot of them are terrified of not being prepared for the "end" of whatever, but they look to be eating themselves to death.
If there is a possibility of collapse, Im comfortable knowing I can hike 5 miles without breaking a sweat.
Im dumbfounded by a lot of the approaches on there, but some of those people are sub-rational. Afraid of everything from solar flares to Chinese invasions, but how many mention climate change?

(4,795 posts)Im ok with eating people, but I really would prefer to leave poor cattle alone if I can help it.
My "prepping" consists of learning to live off the land, which makes a good hobby if you enjoy catching salmon and hiking. Though, the salmon could be extinct in 2 decades.

(39,166 posts)so I'll stick to the salmon/vegetarian route.
Even sans-apocalypse, learning to live off the land isn't a bad idea. Hell, if enough people did it, it might help forestall the end.

(10,745 posts)Probably not extinct. Endangered? Maybe so, and hopefully many of the Native Americans up in the northwest won't have their livelihoods destroyed once the salmon stocks start really declining; the various ill-place dam projects can't have helped much either.

(4,795 posts)once the salmon stocks start really declining
That is very, very out of touch.
The Taimen Salmon are already officially classified as endangered, with stocks down 90%. 1/3 of Sockeye Salmon populations are already at risk or extinct (including my local population). A large portion of Atlantic Salmon populations have gone extinct.

The salmon do not have the time--evolutionary speaking--to adapt to the vast increase in water temperatures and quick acidification of the oceans; and this is only a fraction of the climate related problems they face. Add in everything else thats been happening (like over-fishing, pollution and habitat destruction) and their outlook is dismal.
In any case, the stocks have already drastically declined, and vast numbers are already endangered or extinct. You are late to the party.

But generally I'd agree they are unhealthy.
