Related: About this forumLemurs sliding towards extinction
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18825901The blue-eyed black lemur is thought to be the only primate with blue eyes - except humans
A new survey shows lemurs are far more threatened than previously thought.
A group of specialists is in Madagascar - the only place where lemurs are found in the wild - to systematically assess the animals and decide where they sit on the Red List of Threatened Species.
More than 90% of the 103 species should be on the Red List, they say.
Since a coup in 2009, conservation groups have repeatedly found evidence of illegal logging, and hunting of lemurs has emerged as a new threat.

(21,024 posts)4. Scientists are risk averse
They prefer to err on the side of caution even if it kills us. That probably overstates the case, but never the less, scientists should be forcing the argument on AGW and mass extinctions, and they haven't been, with some notable exceptions.

(12,022 posts)3. but we'll do what we have to to save them!
We are Humans, after all!!!!
Sure we're mighty enough to wipe them out, but we're also good enough to do what we have to to protect healthy species whose very existence is threatened by our exploding population!!
We will help them!! In 2090 there will be at least as many lemurs as there are now!!!!!
I'm starting to understand.. THIS, is what I'm supposed to believe from now on. Humans really are the greatest thing to ever happen to this planet.
