I'm contemplating asking Skinner to start a "College Parents" group

The idea would be to share struggles, thoughts, solutions, etc. on topics such as:

- Scholarships & Financial Aid
- The costs and benefits of early decision, regular decision, and early action
- College visits
- Places to find used texts
- 2 years @ Community college + 2 years @ 4-year school vs. 4 years @ 4-year school
- Grad schools

Any thoughts, criticisms, ideas, suggestions?

1. Great idea!

It would be very useful for DUers who are parents, as well as DUers who are back in school. We have quite a few non-traditional students here.

4. Maybe "College Resources" would be a better name?

I'm not trying to exclude folks trying to self-fund, and adult/returning schoolers are a big thing.

2. Great. My daughter

Is starting her second year at Mount Holyoke College. The application process was very intimidating and stressful. We did okay in terms of scholarships, but I think we could have done better with more info.

5. Not to rely on

School counselors for help or information.

6. I've found school counselors generally have a limited wheelhouse

They are really in-tune with the local colleges and junior colleges, as well as whatever the major state school is. Out of state stuff -- not so good.
