The MO House passed a nasty teacher accountability bill today

Teachers evaluations are tied to test scores (at least 50% of the evaluation must be based on student test scores) and teacher pay is tied to the evaluation. No more seniority when layoffs are necessary.

It's an ALEC bill being pushed heavily by Students First. They literally invaded the state and opened an office across from the capitol.

Several Democrats voted for this garbage. Why would a Democrat support an ALEC bill? It's not like ALEC will even allow them to come to their conferences.

And then those same politicians will be shocked, just shocked that this could have happened.

We are at 50% student test and 50% is principal evaluation. Two years with "insufficient gains" and we will be fired.

I teach special ed. My kids have the lowest scores in the school.

If this nonsense becomes law, I expect a huge pay cut. Then I get fired.

Fun, fun, fun.

is making the rounds at all the state capitols. We have the same crap here at our district. Those teachers with enough time in are retiring, those that can leave the profession are, and those newbies are staying long enough to get loan forgiveness are staying just for that. The right wing has managed to destroy another pillar of the middle class.

Support for the party among many teachers has declined in recent years (not without reason). I guess it isn't too large a stretch to imagine legislators (especially with tight budgets) shifting their loyalties.

Of course this could start a vicious cycle if true... as support from teachers (and now-former teachers) will only decline in response.

for Obama in Texas. But support has dropped due to the antics of Arne. The teachers this year are apathetic at best, pizzed off at worst.

When GWB won, most of the teachers in our school wore black.

They are shifting because of ALEC and donations from Students First and other groups whose agenda is to destroy public education.

I watched them destroy health care and they are now going after education. I am so glad I am near to retirement. I am just counting down the time.
