American Crystal Employees Alter Lifestyles During Lockout

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The lockout of union employees at American Crystal Sugar Co. is entering its ninth month, but it's mostly quiet outside the company's processing plants.

About 1,300 employees in North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa have been locked out since Aug. 1, after union workers rejected a company contract offer. No further talks are scheduled.

Union workers no longer take turns with daily pickets. Instead, some union ambassadors like Hillsboro's Nathan Rahm are attending meetings and rallies to tell the union's side.

Rahm says he has put personal plans — like getting married and raising a family — on hold...
