U.S. says 'Pharma Bro' Shkreli deserves at least 15 years in prison

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors on Tuesday said former drug company executive Martin Shkreli should spend at least 15 years in prison after being convicted of fraud, saying his lack of remorse and respect for the law justified a long time behind bars.

The request by the Department of Justice came three days before Shkreli’s scheduled sentencing by U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto in Brooklyn federal court.

Prosecutors called Shkreli “a man who stands before this court without any showing of genuine remorse, a man who has consistently chosen to put profit and the cultivation of a public image before all else, and a man who believes the ends always justify the means.”

Shkreli, 34, had requested a 12-to-18-month term following his conviction last August for lying to investors about the performance of his hedge funds MSMB Capital and MSMB Healthcare, and conspiring to manipulate the stock price of the drug company Retrophin Inc (RTRX.O).

1. Good! His smarmy face will be gone from the news soon.

And by the time he gets out no one will remember who he is.

2. This is in addition to the over $7 million he has to pay.

I hope he gets the most severe punishment possible. This is from the article.....

"......It cited a January email conversation where Shkreli allegedly wrote “fuck the feds” and expressed hope for a big tax refund because only his “liquid money” was affected by the forfeiture.
“Shkreli’s email communications confirm that any remorse he may express publicly is a carefully constructed facade,” prosecutors said."

3. Then there was the jerk asking his twitter followers to pull out some of Hillary's hair for him...

I suspect all concerned, other than Shkreli himself, will be glad when this round is over, especially the judge. (Potential juror: "Your honor, he kinda looks like a dick." I imagine she agrees!)

In addition to the $7mil asset forfeiture, she can also fine him, and/or order restitution at sentencing.

He'd be a perfect cellie for Kushner, or one of the Trumplings!

4. "lack of remorse and respect for the law"

Sounds like another two-bit prick we all know and hate. Initials: DJT

"without any showing of genuine remorse, a man who has consistently chosen to put profit and the cultivation of a public image before all else, and a man who believes the ends always justify the means."

I'd like to see Trump ROT in a meat locker right next to Shkreli. Both are very deserving.

Earlier today, in federal court in Brooklyn, Martin Shkreli was sentenced by United States District Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto of the Eastern District of New York to seven years’ imprisonment for committing securities fraud and securities fraud conspiracy, to be followed by three years’ supervised release. The Court also ordered Shkreli to pay a $75,000 fine and $7.3 million in forfeiture. Earlier this week, the Court signed a Preliminary Order of Forfeiture, which will allow the government to seize substitute assets to satisfy the forfeiture judgment if necessary, including $5 million held in an account that had been used to secure Shkreli’s bail, the “Once Upon A Time in Shaolin” album by the Wu Tang Clan, the “Tha Carter V” album by Lil Wayne, and a Picasso painting.
