ABC's "What Would You Do?" -- Sexual Harassment. (added Hulu link) (YouTube ADDED)

Last edited Tue Sep 25, 2012, 12:55 AM - Edit history (3)

If you aren't familiar with the show, basically, they set up fake scenarios to see how people will or won't react to certain situations. Friday's episode had a segment dealing with 'sexual harassment.' Go to: http://abc.go.com/watch/what-would-you-do/SH5555951/VD55233653/what-would-you-do-921 -- it is the third "tick" in and you will have to sit through a minute of commercials.

Watch it. What do you think?

ETA: Some people are having problems getting the video to load. I am unsure as to why this is. It appears to be using basic video. If you are interested, you can try this (longer): google search "ABC's "What Would You Do?"", go to season six, it is the newest episode (9/21).

EDIT: Try the Hulu link: http://www.hulu.com/#!watch/404123 it is 21:13 in.

3. Once the page is up, hit "refresh" and see if that works.

I am on my laptop and when I opened it, it also didn't work. Once i hit refresh, it brought up the video part as well.

5. It might help if you just describe the scenario

Even if I could get it to work I don't have much interest in watching commercials or the show itself as it's not one I follow.

6. When I go upstairs later tonight, I will summarize it.

I will note it in a revamped title line. I don't know why the hell it isn't workingfor people. I will also check and see if it is on YouTube yet.

7. I have a fair bit of experience with these things

I'm a manager and I volunteer in the civil rights section of HR. We investigate complaints of sexual harassment, among other things. What I find pretty much mirrors what the show found. With a few exceptions, most people just don't tolerate this kind of behavior anymore. If you compare it to other bad behavior in the workplace, you find much less tolerance. In other words, if your co-worker is drinking on the job and you know it, you are less likely to turn him in than if they are sexually harassing another employee. This is true both in blue collar and white collar jobs at least from what I've seen. I think part of it also depends on the culture that management cultivates. Many years ago we decided to get pro-active, rather than reactive on workplace discrimination and it had a dramatic effect on the incidence of complaints that we were seeing.

8. Without having watched this show...

... but having watched many bastardizations of "candid camera" before it, they usually have a formulaic construct:
complicit actor A) does something questionable
complicit actor B) is in a position in which it would reasonably be expected that he/she would stop it or is otherwise in a position of authority
Subject C) is the only one who doesn't know the scam.

A does something outrageous. C would reasonably expect that B would intervene. C watches incredulously while B allows A to do whatever ridicuous thing the script says.

C is then ridiculed for not usurping B's moral or legal authority to stop A's actions.

My bandwidth (personal and technical) doesn't allow a half hour to dedicate to your request. Can you summarize?
