Porn Stars And Prostitutes Picket Anti-Porn Conference

Porn stars, prostitutes and strippers "do not need to be rescued" by anti-porn feminists. That was the rally cry at a London protest on Saturday, with a gathering of around 50 sex workers and industry figures calling for an end of the "demonisation" of pornographers.
The 'Don't Censor Me' demonstration was called by the Sex and Censorship campaign, in response to the UK launch of 'Stop Porn Culture', an anti-pornography feminist movement led by US academic Gail Dines.

Oh look, it's everybody's favorite transphobic bigot, Gail Dines. That imbecile still manages to get other imbeciles to pay her to hear her spew her ridiculous shit?

6. "Choice" is a problematic word

I mean, I'm all for choice, unless I don't like that choice. Then you shouldn't be able to choose. Because....well, you probably REALLY aren't choosing....because, you know....men and shit.

2. A certain percentage of the population has a need to believe porn harms women

No matter how much information is presented to counter this belief, there are those who will continue to believe it. Just like all snake oil demand, there will always be snake oil salesmen, like Gail Dines, around to sell it.

Ronald Weitzer does an excellent job here of exposing Dines as an "academic" fraud.

4. Here we go..

"We need to reclaim feminism," said striptease dancer 'Edie'. "I think that feminism has a similar theory to radical Islam, there are a few extremists who give Muslims a bad name. It is the same with feminism. We need to stand up and say that pro-censorship, anti-sex women do not speak for all women."

5. *snort*

A group of anti-sex militants led by transphobes lobbying to eliminate consenting adult behavior. Not familiar at all.

I'm glad to see that the protest seems to have gotten more attention and good press than the launch, although the way some of the articles are worded bugs me a bit:

Porn stars prepare for stand-off with feminists over Stop Porn Culture London conference

It isn't the porn stars vs. the feminists, it's the feminists vs. the anti-porn crusaders. As an ex-hooker friend of mine recently said to one of these anti-sex crusaders, "We are the radfems. You are the fundies. Stop trying to co-opt our label."
