Colombian Movement Condemns Killings of Leftist Leaders

Colombian Movement Condemns Killings of Leftist Leaders

Bogota, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) ColombiaâÖs Marcha Patriótica (MP) movement has called on the international community to condemn the flood of killings against social organization leaders and leftist parties activists, as the peace dialogs move forward.

This year, at the threshold of an agreement between the Government and the insurgent FARC-EP, crimes against those who support the peace talks and national reconciliation have intensified, the movement said in a public statement.

From 2012 to 2016, 102 militants were killed, March Patriotica denounced, adding that such crimes coincide with the reactivation of para-militarism in several regions of the country, a situation that generates terror among the communities.

MP speakers, including lawyer Piedad Cordoba, proposed to create an accompaniment and international protection program aimed at facilitating working conditions for those groups, which are being targeted.
