Referring to instances where Venezuelan security forces marked houses for demolition by spray painting them with the letter "D", Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said: "Marking houses to later demolish them is totally unacceptable and reminds one of bitter episodes in history which cannot be allowed to recur."

They have magnificent tourism potential... they could be an agricultural powerhouse... and their better-educated population than most countries in the area could easily support a modern manufacturing/exporting segment (with convenient ports).
But they can't do any of those things because their rulers are clueless when it comes to basic economics (whether "socialist" or "capitalist" or somewhere in between), are deeply corrupt, and are entirely incapable of supporting foundational governance practices that could allow foreign investment.
