Uruguay To Handover Mercosur Presidency To Venezuela

MONTEVIDEO, July 2 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA) -- Uruguay will handover the presidency of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) to Venezuela at the end of the bloc's July 12 summit.

The foreign ministry said, the summit will be preceded by the 45th Meeting of the Common Market Council on July 11.

At the meeting, scheduled for four hours, leaders will discuss issues of common interest to the region.

The event, to be held at the MERCOSUR Building here, will culminate after the transfer of the pro tempore presidency with a joint press conference of the leaders, which will return the same day to their respective countries.

Never thought I'd see Venezuela helding the pro tempore presidency of Mercosur. And, maybe, in some months, we'll see Ecuador and Bolivia at that too. Thanks for the news, Judi!
