(160,429 posts)their "guarimbas" after years of screwing around in other ways, like their short-lived "hunger strike." and their comfy protests wearing white paint on their palms as they waddled around, as if in an Easter Parade, and posted for group photos on the escalators in a large Caracas shopping mall.
It was their guarimbas that really got their juices flowing. Some brought their giant steel slingshots, and winged marbles at Chavista demonstrators, one of the opposition heroes actually bagging an older Chavez supporter, by shooting a marble right into his brain and killing him. The X-rays were published for those who wondered if they really killed someone with a slingshot.
The concept of "guarimba" was circulated originally by Cuban "exile" Venezuelan right-winger Roberto Alonso who lived on an estate near Caracas. He is the brother of U.S. Venezuelan actress Maria Conchita Alonso. He fled for a while to Miami after the Venezuelan government learned from an informer that he had gathered together over 100 Colombian paramilitaries who were living on his property in quanset huts. They, after capture, revealed they had been solicited in Colombia to come to Venezuela by members of the Venezuelan opposition and were there to overthrow the President, to assassinate him, and had planned to rob a Venezuelan armory, steal 2000 guns, and go into Miraflores, to kill Chavez.
That's why Roberto Alonso turned tail and waddled off as fast as he could to the next airplane out to Miami with his lovely family.

Three Venezuelan Officers and 27 Colombians Sentenced for Assassination Plot
A Venezuelan military court sentenced three Venezuelan military officers and 27 Colombians to two to nine years of prison for plotting an assault on Venezuelas presidential palace and the assassination of President Hugo Chavez.Another 73 Colombians and 3 Venezuelan officers, who had also been suspected of participating in the plot, were freed after spending 17 months in prison.
118 Colombians were captured in May 2004 on a ranch just outside of Caracas, wearing Venezuelan military fatigues. Many of them appeared to be Colombian paramilitary fighters who had been recruited for a mission in Venezuela to attack the Chavez government and to kill the president. Six Venezuelan officers were also arrested in the course of the investigation.
Some of the Colombians were peasants who had been lured to come to Venezuela with the promise of jobs. Upon arriving, though, they were forced to engage in paramilitary training exercises and were forbidden to leave the ranch. 18 of the Colombians were released immediately after the capture and returned to Colombia because they were minors between 15 and 17 years. The ranch belongs to Roberto Alonso, a prominent Cuban-Venezuelan opposition activist. The highest level officer to be sentenced was General Ovidio Poggioli, who had been charged with military rebellion and was sentenced to 2 years and ten months of prison. The other two Venezuelan officers are Colonel Jesús Farias Rodríguez and Captain Rafael Farias Villasmil, who were each sentenced to nine years of prison. The 27 Colombians were each sentenced to six years prison.
When the group of Colombians were first arrested, many opposition leaders argued that the government had staged the arrests, in order to make the opposition look bad. They pointed out that no weapons were found with the paramilitary fighters and that the whole operation looked far too amateurish to have any chance of success. Also, it was argued that it is practically impossible to transport 120 Colombian paramilitary fighters undetected all the way from Colombia to Caracas, considering that there are numerous military control points along the way.

So now we learn the opposition is going to reinstate guarimba. Apparently they think that the people have forgotten what they already did, or they think Maduro will not be strong enough to know how to deal with them.
Filthy scum right-wing a-holes.

(7,362 posts)Students would protest all sorts of things (the big thing at the time was Haiti) and the RW College Republicans would put out press releases like this accusing the students of, in essence, being commie sympathizers and such and trying to tear down the institution.
Let the college kids protest. They might be on the wrong side, but they shouldn't be demonized like this.

Some of the students threw stones back, other witnesses said.
"We were holding a peaceful march. ... All we want is democracy," said law student Eduardo Vargas, 19, whose eye was injured in the incident. "We're all Venezuelans. We just want a fair vote."
Police fired tear gas towards the 150 or so government supporters and formed a cordon between the two sides.

(62,325 posts)Thus the desperate attempts at emotional manipulation, as you point out. I guess there is some belief that if you study the 'left' and see what they are concerned about, 'rape' eg, which of course any decent human being is, then use it to try to 'shame' them, they will be influenced or 'exposed' in some way. Old, failed tactics of course, but always interesting to observe.
If they are concerned about rape v legitimate rape, whatever that means, there are certainly countries where they could maybe do some good, where rape is used as a weapon of war and where often the US either ignores it, or worse, supports its leaders.
I am still waiting for those who are so 'concerned' about the affairs of countries in Latin America, to express some outrage over actual brutality, corruption and torture and rape in countries which our government supports. And REAL DICTATORS.
I never see these 'concerned' people say a word eg, about the actual dictatorships we support. Uzbekistan eg, or Saudi Arabia. Sometimes what people say nothing about, tells you more about them than what they 'rail' against.
But then the Latin American leaders are mostly on the Left now. Our friendly dictators in other parts of the world, are mostly on the Right.

Or taking the time to carefully remove the heads from a family, seat them around their humble table, with their heads on the table in front of its torso seated in the chair, as a way of striking additional fear into the hearts, minds, nightmares of people in the country in order to paralyze their resistance, or Chile's torture meisters who tortured animals AND leftists at the same time in some of their grotesque scenes from hell they conducted to drive people mad with fear and horror before murdering them.

(62,325 posts)these monsters, and opposes Democratic leaders like Chavez.
I always knew that since I have spent time engaging them on their support for these monsters. What I did not know, was that anyone on the left in this country, while not openly supporting them, does so by opposing democratically elected leaders like Chavez. They so by denying that the US was behind the Chavez coup attempt, or the Aristedes successful coup.
Every democrat in this country who opposes those monsters most of them supported by THIS government, has an obligation in order to try to exhonerate our own guilt, to support every left leaning leading elected fairly by the victims of our horrific policies in that region of the world. By joining in the anti-democratic leaders they are helping to ensure a return of these monstrous dictators, with the help of the Western Powers. Even when I don't agree with a policy of some of the new leaders, I will continue to support them until Latin America is out of danger from interference again from Western Right Wing powers.

Quaint that you use Reuters here though.
(My source is AP since you've shown an incapacity to read sources in the past.)

(5,113 posts)Now, as to validity of that particular report ... I absolutely LOVE how detailed it is.
Though one might ask a simple question: how come its so different from Reuters report? Like 180 oppoiste. Police barricade Routers didn't notice? Police kicking shit out of HUNDREDS of students escaped their eyes? ...
It's not like Reuters are known to be commie, pincko, CHAVISTAS supporters... Or did they switch over night and no one noticed?
But, do carry on!
PS. I can read the source. That's not a problem. Problem is when someone tries to make something more acceptable by concealing the actual source, or reposting from a site that other users might trust because of its previous history. You know, LOOK this time HUFFINGTON POST published it!!! Therefore it can be trusted!!! You get my idea don't you?
