Hillary Clinton

It has finally hit me that we are going to have for the first time in history a female presidential candidate in the United States of America.
It has sunk in that we are going to have for the first time in history a female presidential candidate in the United States of America.
So many thoughts right now. My dear mother passed last September 12th at the age of 85. In 1966 after divorcing my dad she was thrust into the world with little education and had two daughters to take care of. My dead beat dad was no where in our lives but in 1966 Mom had to do what she could in order to put a roof over our heads and put food on the table for three people. She took a job as a bus driver making $1.66 an hour.
In 1966, a divorced woman did not have options that women today have so I know, in looking back, that Mom's road was a difficult one. Combine that with the stigma of being a divorced woman who heard all too often, even within her own family, "You need to stay with Don, at least he has a job"
Mom was a huge admirer of Bill Clinton and it was Bill running for president that finally encouraged her to register to vote for the first time in 1992. When Hillary announced last year she was running, Mom said matter of factly "she's going to win".
When I cast my vote this morning for Hillary, I was also casting a vote for my mother, in spirit.
"she's going to win"

Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)60's, just one example things was not fair for women. Hillary met with some of the same double standard in her life, she knows there was doors slammed in our faces. In Louisiana women was not allow to work more than 9 hours a day and was the excuse of why women was not able to get traditionally "men's jobs", a law suit was filed and this was changed in courts. Women could then take the jobs. I am happy many of the road blocks have been removed, having a woman president will send a big message. Having said this, Hillary is the most qualified candidate running in this campaign. I am looking forward to having a hard working qualified president, she will be great.

(1,446 posts)235 years. That's a long time to wait for a woman to rise to the highest office in the land. Think of all the generations of women who had to endure injustice and what they would think of this. It really is powerful.

(1,197 posts)It's been a long wait for the women of this land. My Mother would be so ridiculously happy about Hillary's chances. It's with great pleasure that we see a most qualified woman candidate advancing to the nomination of President of the USA. I, too will be voting for my Mother, my Aunts, and the women along the way who endured. Let's hope Hillary can overcome anything new that stands in her way as she has all of her life.

(30,247 posts)To see a woman candidate come so close to the nomination was exhilarating. It was heartbreaking when she didn't make it, but this year is our year. I remember when Hillary's mother had tears in her eyes while listening to her daughter give her concession speech that June. I bet Hillary wishes that her mom could see her be close to winning the nomination.
Lovely story. I too will cast my vote in honor of my mother. She voted for Hillary in 2008, but died unexpectedly in 2009.

A sister of her late mother's.
I also wish that Dorothy Rodham was alive for this moment.
I am sorry to hear that your mom has passed away. I don't remember you having posted about that before.
My mom has also passed and I miss her all the time.
I think Hillary will win the GE and become our next president.
And if the GOP can somehow win under Trump, Cruz, or even Romney or Ryan at a contested convention, then I think we can count on all of them to do a truly horrible job.
Hopefully we can avoid that fate, and also secure the Supreme Court for a generation, by election Hillary and a Democratic senate.

(30,247 posts)It must be thrilling for her aunt to see Hillary get closer to the nomination. As for her mom, she would have been so proud of her daughter. BTW, her name was Dorothy, not Diane. Diane is Hillary's middle name.
Thanks for the condolences, Stevie. No, I didn't post anything over here. I didn't think anyone would really care.
For the sake of the country, I hope that you're correct and Hillary wins the presidency. Trump is a vile man.
Hugs!!!

(10,500 posts)Speaking of which, I am going nuts over a grammatical decision. I had written "a sister of her mother." I have now edited it to say "a sister of her mother's." I am not sure which one is correct. Either way, I realize that it is an incomplete sentence, LOL.
Of course I care about someone's mom passing. It is one of the hardest losses to endure.
I agree that Trump is disgusting, but Ted Cruz is pretty horrible in his own way. His former college roommate once said that he would rather have almost anyone else as president. He said that he would rather pick someone out of the phone book.
Marco Rubio, the so-called establishment choice, was actually quite extreme in the things he was saying. And Mitt Romney, who lamented Trump's dishonesty, is a remarkably dishonest man in his own right. Remember in the debates when he called the American Enterprise Institute "non-partisan?" And in his anti-Trump speech he spewed out a bunch of lies about Hillary.
Hillary's aunt is named Isabelle. She is Dorothy's sister. I believe her name is Isabelle Howell Dowdy.

(718 posts)Between the original post and imagining secretary Clinton's mother as she stepped down. In an interview with Ellen she discussed not being able to have her own credit card even though she made more money than Bill. I'm grateful for what she is doing and her strength, experience, and courage. Thanks to all the women who made it easier for the rest of us, from fighting for the ability to read, to vote, to own property, get birth control, go to college and all that's ahead if we can hold our ground and build upon it.

I am beyond disgusted with the Democratic and Republican parties. You are ruining the country, along with the apathy of the majority of American citizens. I am ashamed to be an American. This is now choosing between Caligula and Nero, political suicide for the whole country. This is my first post ever, maybe my last. Sad times...

(24,135 posts)How nice of you to come to our little forum and spew hate towards our party, country and future nominee.
Did you go to a republican site and do the same?
Our country is following the same path as the Romans. We are in the expensive, ineffective war and corruption faze.
Are you on Disqus? There I can show you an encyclopedia of vitriol toward the Clinton's old friend, Rump.

(24,135 posts)I've had enough the past few months to last a lifetime, I've been called some ugly names on the web by Sanders supporters including cripple. I know who ever posted it meant I was a mental cripple but as a polio survivor I haven't been called that since I was a child. So to avoid the onslaught of vitriol aimed at President Obama, Democrats and Hillary I deactivated my Facebook page and probably won't ever go back because I had no idea people I know/knew were so full of hate towards everybody/anybody except this old guy who hasn't really accomplished much and has little support from his peers. I have to take that into consideration - he has few friends in DC and when asked who he admired he said Jim Inhofe of all people.
The Clinton's are well connected and admired around the world, sorry that doesn't sit well with you, but it's true. The world is rooting for Hillary because they are terrified of a Trump presidency. Sanders has no power, never has and has done little to network with people who you may despise but are very powerful. Frankly I don't think he knows how to relate or deal with the billionaires and heads of state because he has refused to do so for decades.
Just saying no and trashing Democrats for 24 years doesn't impress me, nor does a campaign fueled by hate.

Also with that we get the two for one factor.

(11,579 posts)I suddenly realized that not only did we all just share the most remarkable milestone--an African American president, but now a woman president is soon to take the oval office! Such historic achievements and we are right here part of it all--part of history in the making!
I got a little emotional, too, and also wish my mother was still alive to see it happen--she died last November. She would have been so excited.

(11 posts)It was Mega Tuesday and I was worn down by the anti-feminist statements, really sick of fellow women tear down Hillary's accomplishments and some how think that Bernie would be better for women, and just upset in general with the atmosphere surrounding the Hillary campaign. Then she won, and she won so big and we turned on her victory speech. When we were finished my husband went to give me a high five and I simply lost it. I was sobbing uncontrollably. I thought people had turned their backs on a woman that had done so much for us once again. Strong women are so hated that any effort seen in a cynical and negative light. I feared so much that I would once again be denied a representative.
I hit me like it did you, that all the shit women are forced to eat and accept could actually be addressed. That we will have a strong leader who knows what it is like to work in a male dominate arena. I love Hillary, she is so strong, she does so much and she receives the same amount of gratitude that most women receive, criticism and mockery. Bernie is right about one thing, we need a revolution, but we need a female revolution lead by a female president. A revolution that demands proper health care for women, protects our reproductive rights, rewards us with the wages we deserve, and respects women for their choice, whether they choose to work, raise children, seek higher education, or want to be open about their sexuality without being name whores or sluts. I am tired of women being told to wait, that we are angry men haters, that we are already equal, that we can't make our own choices, that we are ice queens or sluts, that we are simply what men determine us to be. I am who I choose to be and I am only limited by a society who somehow thinks that women are equal when we have no representation.
