Defeat
Cornel West told Vice News last week that he feared many of Clintons most prominent African-American supporters had lost their way. The vocal Sanders supporter singled out Congressmen John Lewis and Jim Clyburn repeatedly.
Theres no doubt that the great John Lewis of 50 years ago is different than the John Lewis today, West asserted. Hes my brother. I love him, I respect his personhood, but theres no doubt hes gone from a high moment of Martin Luther King-like struggle to now [a] neoliberal politician in a system that is characterized more and more by legalized bribery and normalized corruption.

He is certainly free to support the candidate of his choice. He is not, IMO, free to criticize ANY AA civil rights icon - especially John Lewis - simply because that person has not felt the Bern.

(24,135 posts)Something irrational is going on, Dyson said, later adding, It was the nastiness of the tone. The unprincipled assault. Theres a difference between that and ad hominem.
Wests ever personal turn has obscured the sometimes powerful and sometimes luminous and other times legitimate critique he may have, according to Dyson.
But when you weight it down under the burden of extraordinary, personal bitterness, it just wipes away all the good stuff that you might say and makes us question what it is about the motivation for your criticism in the long run, he said.
Dyson is talking about both Wests critique of Obama and of the scholars attacks on Dyson and his peers, both older and younger, primarily Melissa Harris-Perry, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. West has called them all traitors of sorts, liars and opportunists who choose to toe the Obama administration line. This despite the fact that all have been critical of President Obama at one point or another but have couched their criticism with respect for both the office and the place President Obama holds in the hearts of many African Americans.
West, who has compared himself to slain civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., has called them false prophets, leading with the idea that his voice is the only one ringing with any truth http://www.theroot.com/articles/politics/2015/04/michael_eric_dyson_tells_the_root_about_his_split_with_mentor_cornel_west.html

(1,630 posts)He did not just say that about Lewis and Clyburn! Way to make yourself look like a fool, Cornel. I guess he is going for his usual "scorched earth" strategy because he isn't getting enough attention. The only way he maintains relevance is by attacking those who have succeeded where he has failed. That pattern fools no one and is exactly why he is held in such low regard.
I have noticed a trend with some of Bernie's "fringe" surrogates. More than a few of them seem to be exploiting the moment for their own aggrandizement. I cringe when so many of them take advantage of his campaign and don't care whether they hurt him or a progressive message in the process. Hillary is my first choice but it helps none of us when our Democratic candidates are reduced to the level of these clowns.

And, remember to reflect on all those racist nasty names you called President Obama, Cornel. And, do realize how popular the President is.. And, the majority want the next President to carry on his policies.
The polls showed that in South Carolina
Thorough analysis of the SC primary demographics.

Sanders 18%

(8,545 posts)just endorsed Clinton for the Democratic primary. The editor said that he knows people hate Clinton just as much as they hate Obama. By that, he meant white people. Because so many white people in Alabama and other southern states have been so negative about Obama and Hillary, POC are pushing back and supporting Hillary. I believe that they think that not voting for Clinton would be sending the message that they don't support Obama.
