Just days before early voting begins for the Texas primary, Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton Saturday opened a regional campaign office in Dallas.
More than 150 people jammed into the northwest Dallas office to pick up campaign signs and help with phone banking.
Several elected officials were on hand, including U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and state Reps. Roberto Alonzo and Rafael Anchia.
The enthusiasm is here, Johnson said. If we can carrying this enthusiasm throughout the state and let people know when and where to vote, Hillary will carry this state...
Texas is Hillary country. She was here in the 1970s working on Latino issues before it was sexy to be working on Latino issues, Anchia said. I was really excited to tell my two daughters, who are 12 and 9, that I was going to be endorsing the first female president of the United States.

(9,148 posts)Texas, a large state that generally has a small voice in the battle for the White House, could well make an impact in this years presidential race.
Much like 2008, when the Democratic race was still a real contest when Texans went to the polls, it looks like the March 1 primary will (have) the same sort of dynamic, said Rebecca Deen, who heads the political science department at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Early voting begins Tuesday for the March 1 primary and runs through Feb. 26.
