(15,500 posts)The Obamas are great, as per usual.
But I am also a Sean Bean fan!
This is a total distraction from your point. But ... Although I don't believe that too many in the US have seen the Sharpe TV series (mostly dealing with the Napoleonic Wars in Europe and shown in the 1990s on ITV, and a couple later episodes out post-2000 dealing generally with the British East India Company in India, shown via the Beeb), it's great fun to watch. This series is one reason why Sean Bean is a major icon in the UK. The two later episodes were picked up by PBS and rebroadcast in the US, but the ITV episodes are much better, IMO. I keep hoping that Netflix will pick the series up in its entirety.

(305,515 posts)a comment calling Wonkette a bad name on the gdp thread where she dropped burnie like a hot anvil.
No worries about OT.. we can discuss Sean Bean.. is the pic in the OP from that show you're talking about "Sharpe"? Or something else?
BlueMTexpat
(15,500 posts)Here is one of him in Sharpe.
Here's more about the series. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpe_(TV_series)

(305,515 posts)Looks interesting!~
Game of Thrones was too violent/gory for me..
But, there's this other historical fiction series I love.. Outlander! Have you heard of that?
BlueMTexpat
(15,500 posts)Great minds!
Unfortunately, I had to leave the US after the first couple episodes of the second season. So I'm hoping that Netflix will pick it up fast. Netflix already has Season 1.
Cha
(305,515 posts)I had no idea it would be so good! I was hoping you'd seen it.. I've asked all my real life friends and no one has seen it.. they've heard of it.. they think. I told them if they ever get a chance to see it.. because those are our people!.. Scotland, history, scenery, romance! And, Accents, Gaelic!
So I saw the 1st Season... and have Season 2 on Save and hope they do a 3rd Season from the woman's book series who wrote it, Diana Gabaldon
:
BlueMTexpat
(15,500 posts)It's on Starz on US cable TV . The Swiss channel (RTS1) also broadcast the first season last fall and they will be picking up the second season as well.
I just bought a Diana Gabaldon book of short stories set roughly in the same era, but haven't yet begun to read it.
GOT is such a popular series over here that RTS1 broadcasts it in the original version (VO), which is English, on the Mondays immediately following the Sunday broadcasts in the US. But they also add French subtitles! It has a HUGE following!

(305,515 posts)Let's be perfectly clear. One campaign has declared that its intention is to override the primary results and steal the nomination.
Allan Brauer ??@allanbrauer
This places them outside the Democratic Party tent, and such a campaign deserves zero voice at our convention.

(28,833 posts)All of the fake posturing in politics and all of the manufactured outrage. Bush and his fake Texas accent. Trump and a few Sanders supporters feigning ignorance thinking that we see them as anything other than fakes.
Such a contrast.
President and Mrs. Obama and their children are genuine, real, authentic. They're real people. They act like real people. They admit that real people have real problems. They acknowledge that real people make mistakes and like real adults, they acknowledge them.
Remind me again why Hillary's "third Obama term", often said with such derision, particularly by some on the left, is supposed to be a bad thing?
Yes they are mad! And the fault is shifting over!
Thanks Cha!
