Related: About this forumIn 1998, I had a meeting with Howard Stern
It was in the lobby of a Vegas Hotel and lasted about 15 seconds.
We discussed my thoughts surrounding the games of chance and his potential good fortune.
It was an important meeting...very moving and powerful.
Which important world leaders or entertainment icons have you had meetings with in the past?

(42,862 posts)... airline safety. Oh, it's been so long ago that I can't recall the exact words, but the gist of it was something like this
"Looks like you'll have clear weather for a smooth flight." And ... "safe travels to you!"
So, if you think about it, it can be argued that we did indeed talk about climate and safety.

Why in the world would I lie about that?!

(10,472 posts)Or in Camp Sanders' parlance... my personal friend, wrestling superstar Sgt. Slaughter, invited me to a private get-together at an exclusive and historic Boston enclave.
On a serious note, I did get to meet Cam Kerry during the 2004 primaries. He came down Main St. (New Hampshire college town, popular stops with the primary candidates) dropping in to the local businesses. In the coffee shop I was in he came by everyone's table for a minute or so to talk up his brother. I was for Dean at the time, but still, nice guy. Stil lwouldn't classify it as "me and Cam had a sit-down", though.

And I also was on the same plane as the New York Islanders back in the 1990s - I was sitting next to Glen Healy (goalie) and across the aisle from Ray Ferraro. Al Arbor and Bob Bourne stopped next to my seat to speak with Healy.
As an Islander fan, I was in my glory.

(67,782 posts)...thrill for me was at an annual sports dinner of the NYAC. They honored an athlete as the "Sportsman of the Year" each year, Denis Potvin was the honoree one year. After the dinner it was customary to visit some of the individual "clubs" in our ~ 20-story building.
I was waiting for the elevator - the doors opened and who was in it? Denis Potvin and Bobby Nystrom! My knees just about buckled.

And, speaking of Martina and tennis, when I was a child my family ophthalmologist was Richard Raskind (google him)

(836 posts)We didn't talk politics much.
I met Jimmy Carter when he came to talk about eradicating Guinea worm.
I met John Glenn when a group of astronauts came to talk about the doctor in space program.
I handed Kareem Abdul Jabbar his jersey.
I handed James Brown a dry jacket.
I talked with Tom Cruise about his acting.
Shaquille O'Neal kept the shoes I handed to him.
Harrison Ford looked at me and just kept going.
Toni Morrison lives across the street from my Dad and I met her over the breakfast table.
Samuel L. Jackson said "Good morning." to me and didn't even say "fuck".
Lauren Bacall was gracious and professional but we didn't talk politics.
The Duke of Wellington looked puzzled when he shook my hand.
Queen Elizabeth II twinkled and said "Looks like a bit of fun." to my wife (who was standing next to me).

(15,349 posts)that is one impressive list!
I can't get past the Scientology thingie these days, but must admit that I admired Cruise in some of his earlier roles.
I am a huge fan of Jimmy Carter. What a wonderful human being he is!
I had an impromptu conversation with Sean Astin (LOTR's "Samwise Gamgee" this week at a Hillary phone-banking session. He mentioned that his late mom Patty Duke would have her memorial in northern Idaho today and I mentioned that I was born and raised in MT and had recently been in NW MT a couple weeks ago, not all that far away. He gave me a personal thumbs-up on his way out!
I want to stress, however, that this is in no way an endorsement of ME. He is a HUGE HRC supporter!

(4,309 posts)I met Patti Smith in 1978 because I went along with a friend who was interviewing her.
I met her former lover, Allen Lanier of Blue Oyster Cult, at Ram's Head Tavern in Annapolis 30 years later. He was standing in front of me at the buffet line at the bar side of the venue. Said it was much better than their backstage food. We chatted for a few minutes. Very nice guy. May he rest in peace.
