A family visiting Fripp Island discovered 20 kilos of cocaine floating near the shore this week, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

According to an incident report from the BCSO, deputies responded to Ocean Point Lane on Fripp Island just before midnight Monday after the discovery was made.

The man who called authorities said he was walking the beach with his family late at night when they noticed a large dark object floating near the shore near Marlin Lane. He put the object in his golf cart and took it back to their vacation home to get a better look. After finding several bricks inside, cutting one open, and finding a white powdery substance, he called authorities.

Officials say the substance tested positive for cocaine. In all, deputies seized 20 bricks. The report said the total weight was 20 kilos.
