*BOG GROUP* First of Four Trade Bills Passes House

On CSPAN today and Friday, 4 trade bills are being considered by the US House.

The first bill has passed 397-32. This H.R. 1295, "African Trade and Repeal Medicare Offset," concurring on Senate amendments with amendment. This bill will go back to the Senate for amendment approval.

The amendment - Medicare money will not be used to fund TAA displaced worker program! One 'poison pill' done! Thank you, Nancy Pelosi!

For what it's worth:

Republicans - 212 for, 31 against, 3 NV.

Democrats - 185 for, 1 against, 2 NV.

1. Debate Rules for Trade Promotion Authority Passed (H.Res. 305)

Clearing the way for TPA, TPP and related Customs bill votes Friday.

Only 8 Democrats approved rules, final vote tally 217 -212. Passed at the last second.

The whipping is now a frenzy!

I think it was a pretty good outcome from the WH poiint of view. Dunno how he did it but he got it done. Well, almost, but at least it's not DOA, and TAA is coming back around the bend next week, so eventually TPA will pass, meaning eventually TPP will pass, probably around Christmas, just in the nick of time before election season heats up LOL.
