If I could lift this Mac and toss it I would!

My lg screened Mac with 10.6.8 no longer has sound nor Preview and gawd knows what else is screwed up. I bought this last year and it is a lg screened sucker and has already been in the shop last year replacing many significant parts. Then they would not replace it when it messed up again. They said take it in but my mom died and my dad went into the hospital so have not any time to drive this huge idiot nearly 45 minutes away in the opposite direction to get it repaired.
Is there anything I can do to fix this awful machine temporally to get back sound and Preview?
This is the first time I have hated my machine. Ever!

2. What happens when you launch Preview?

Have you tried just using QuickLook instead? (locate item in Finder window, then hit the spacebar)

4. It works today. I have poltergeists in my iMac.

3. Had trouble with my desk top as well last Oct

It took 4 trips to the local independent Mac Store repair shop to get it running, every time they fixed something, they screwed up something else.

The hard disk had gone bad, which they replaced with an incorrect replacement, then it was one software glitch after another as the tech seemed to find new & interesting ways to simply not get the job right.

I finally stood there on their sales floor and explained in a firm, but not terribly quiet voice as they were trying to sell units to other customers that I was tired of seeing them and I wanted the thing fixed properly so that I didn't have to waste time & gas to return.

I have since been rather vocal with those who I know have & use Macs regarding this experience and most likely have cost them some business.

5. uuugh! Is it working now? They replaced the hard disk and the fan and did a couple of things

right away after we bought this thing. It has been a nightmare. Sadly.
I am going to bring it in next week...problem is I have no other computer. Well I have one with a broken screen......

6. Mine is working, but I am not too happy with it as it seems to have

some lingering problems, just can't put my finger on them. I had one of the desk lamp versions of Mac years ago that acted wonky from time to time & eventually I simply replaced it as I probably will do with this one at first opportunity. There are lemons in every line of products.
I was lucky in that I keep my old machines (the immediate replaced machine remains in the same room with my current machine and I keep it updated as best I can and semi-ready to go) and I was able to get by with my older desk top and an iPad for a few days while they repaired this one.

7. Have you tried DiskWarrior?

Best repair software I've used. It won't fix a real hardware problem, but many problems are really with the software and can be repaired by DiskWarrior.
